Exclamation Minor "Hit-and-run" damage - What to do?

...As far as cosmetics go.

My first post on this forum was a call for help, and now my second will be another. My sister's BMW was involved in a minor hit-and-run accident. Her car was parked on the 2nd floor of a downtown mall. When she returned to her car this is what she saw.

My sister has a reputation of lying so - I'm no expert, but can anyone tell who was the runner? :P Either my sister hit the car and ran or someone hit her and ran without leaving a phone number.

We don't want our insurance to get involved, so what should we do to get rid of it?

Will some Bondo and touch-up paint from BMW make this car happy again?

WOW, thats terrible man... I saw a hit and run last night on some poor guys pickup... what is wrong with people these days??

But on the note of repairs, you are really going to need some professional work to get it looking right again. Nothing extravagant that your average bodyshop wouldn't be able to handle... gl man

Not a bodywork expert here ...but this looks like the driver has hit a pole or something while backing out the car.

Insurance doesnt need to be involved but it will be a fairly expensive fix at a reputable body shop. . .But in the end it may be worth it. . .I dunno weigh your options. . .In terms of telling whether your sister was hit or she hit someone, only she knows that.

I was thinking a truck or SUV with a tow ball hit her, but that doesn't really explain how the scratches went up onto the ledge of the bumper and the red markings inside the dent sense most tow balls are chrome or silver.

Funny thing is, she called us up to tell her that someone had hit her while me and my parents were out at a dealership about to buy a car. She ended our conversation with a salesman immediately and we had to leave right away to see the damage. Darn it, would've been my first car :P

It wouldn't be worth it to go through insurance. I'd take it to a reputable body shop around you and get it looked at and see what they say. They will probably just fill the hole and repaint it. ~$1500

$1500?!

Wouldn't buying an aftermarket bumper be cheaper? I think if I went out and got it replaced at the dealer it'd be cheaper as well.

Seems like it happens to everyone these days. If I hit someone I would leave my number - for the sake of karma!

Down here, we have a place called Carsmetics (www.carsmetics.com) that does really good work for things like that on the cheap. I generally refer clients there for minor work like yours. My TT was cursed and they did plenty of work on it and I was always satisfied. Also, my ex-wife backed into a chick and I had her take both cars there and you wouldn't have known anything happened to either car. The total bill was less than $1K. I would look around for a place like that.

$1500? Are you freakin' kidding? Someone backed into my car while parked at a train station last year, and I had two small holes the size of those the OP had. To fill the holes and sand and repaint the bumper cover cost a grand total of $350. Looks absolutely perfect now.
