Stage 2 turbo upgrade help!!!!!!
I have a 2009 335i MT. So I recently put in some stage 2 turbos (dynamic autoworx). Car feels sluggish during pulls. I'm thinking I need another tune?
Mod list Vrsf downpipes, vrsf relocating inlets. Charge pipe with his bov, recently rebuilt engine. Jb4, stage 2 fuel pump. I'm using 5w-50 oil (recommended by dynamic autoworx) no fault codes. Vacuum lines all new. I did the install myself (everything is good as far as install) I have delpie coils and stock spark plugs (fairly new about 5k miles on em) I'm hoping I just need a tune? I'm just hoping someone may have had a similar experience. Engine bay may look like crap for now, tucking wires and all later once car is solid |

I dont have fault codes, I dont know how to do logs. I guess I'll have to learn. As far as a tune. You recommend mhd or should I suck it up and take it to a tuner

I have the same turbos for my car .
I was running mhd 2+ but to get most from them you need custom tune. I went with bq tuning myself he sends me map and I use mhd to flash. Then use mhd monitoring and disable dtc on your car and take a few logs running 3rd gear 2500 rpm punch it till at least 6000 rpm for good logs with that I send back to bq and he will revise and modify then send back till it looks good for boost and timing. I have stage 2 lpfp more boost more fuel still dialing in my tune myself little lag on spool then seems can hold boost till top

I think you will or should upgrade your coil packs to Eldor & plugs to NKG 2 steps colder .018 gap.
The stock plugs and Delphi coils won't be good / hold much past 525hp. stage 2 dynamic autoworks turbos are designed for 600 plus HP. You need outlets & a wedge custom tune through MHD. So, you'd back end flash JB4 Once you get to 600hp, you'll probably need a stage 3 LPFP What are you doing for your airbox? Cone filters or an upgraded CAI like an AFE momentum etc |

Are you at least back end flashed for hybrid turbos? There are ots maps for that
If not at least that, of course you need a custom tune

I would suggest getting a custom tune as I am running the same turbos as you DAW Stage 2s with stock location 2" inlets, fbo, minus jb4. DAW suggested I use Redline 5W40 weight synthetic oil. I am running stock bosch coils let's see how long they last with 2 step colder plugs. I would recommend buying a custom tune from David Shoup or Dr Vu Tuning otherwise known as Phuong Khac Vu on FB. How come DAW suggested you use 50 weight oil? I'm surprised he didn't tell you to run 10W60 oil. A custom tune will bring your car to life! Are you auto or manual? |

For the sake of emphasis: if you have no back end flash at all or are using a flash designed for stock turbos then OF COURSE YOU NEED A CUSTOM TUNE OR AT LEAST THE PROPER BACK END FLASH |

Where do I get a back end flash from?!?!?! I've been doing research and cant find a proper answer, or maybe I just dont under stand? I just bought and gapped those ngk 2 step colder plugs. My car definitely runs smoother, I also found a hybrid turbo map 6 tune. After high boost/4500rpm I get instant loss of power, I'm assuming it's due to lack of back end flash? If anyone can just post a link of where I can get the proper back end flash I would really appreciate it.

You need to buy MHD flasher. The BB flasher discussed in the linked post requires is free but requires a special $150 cable and more importantly, is no longer supported by the developer and can be glitchy. FWIW you do not need 2 step colder plugs - a single step colder might be a good idea. Do some reading about what the "hot" or "cold" rating on spark plugs actually means and how you determine what rating to use. It's not magic - it does not add or subtract power or cause a sluggish engine to become peppy Last edited by dpaul; 09-15-2019 at 10:15 PM.. |
