Too old to tune?
I've had my 09 335ix for a couple years and love it, it's at 82k miles right now and I was looking at maybe doing the MHD Stage 1 since the car is entirely stock and i'd love to unlock that first bit of potential. I also have a bit of rattle so the MHD option for that sounds appealing as well.
Would it be safe to run stage 1 on a 10 year old car with 82k? I have recently done plugs, coils, injectors, valve cover, oil filter housing, and a walnut blast so major things are in good shape (hopefully). Should I add any mods if only planning to do the most basic, stage 1 version? I'm a noob at all of this and saw some people say to not even go stage 1 without a chargepipe, FMIC, and new diverter valves due to plastic stock pieces. Thanks! |

I'm getting ready to run MHD stage 1+ with downpipes, DCI, and FMIC on my 07' 335i with 90K miles on it.
I'd say go ahead and do all of your maintenance, and then run it ![]() |

If your maintenance is up to date and your engine seems in good shape why not. I'm stage 2+, upgraded turbos + Full bolt on, and run E50 at 194,000 miles.

163k here. Original turbos rattling to their eventual death but running great.

Ive seen single turbo cars with 150,000+ miles. You'll be good as long as maintenance is up to date. Its not the motors that typically fail, its all the auxiliary components (injectors, coils, solenoids, turbos, etc)

I owned mine from 120k until 171k, and it was stage 2 for at least 40k of my miles. Catless dp was my only mod, and I really wrung it out a bunch.

Your car sounds like it's all ready to be tuned! But I do recommend you upgrade your chargepipe at the minimum. While you're doing the chargepipe you might as well install dual cone intakes for another ~$90. Your car will feel much more alive, and stage 1 is just the start!
