Another JB3 Dyno!!

Ok. Verdict is in. JB3 rocks.
All dynos done on a Dynojet. CF: STD Smoothing: 5
First off, I dont have the run files yet. Should have them tommorow morning, and the vids should be up next week.

Like I said in my earlier posts. Both cars are v81. My cousins is an e92 Jb3 with the BMS single. I have an e90 Jb3, Dual cones, Forge DVs.
Both cars running with 93 octane.
My cousins car was sitting for about 2 hours. He also just had an oil change done right before the dyno runs. We strap his car on the Dyno. Hood up, fan on the engine, and a small fan in front of the car. The fan in front of the car was a bit taller then the front bumper, so it didnt really blow air into the kidney grills of the car. For his runs, the temps were about 82-87 degrees I think, not sure of the humidity. His first few runs where done with the SAE correction factor. We later switched them to STD. There was about a 10 whp difference between the 2. His first run was a 341 to the wheels, with torque at about 337. Second run was 347 and 342. 3rd run was 351 whp, and 349 torque.
We shut the car down, let it cool a bit, and I put in his stock airbox. About 20 min later we did 3 more runs. 1st run with stock airbox was 353 whp, 354 torque. 2nd and 3rd runs then dropped off almost 7 whp and torque.
We then strapped my ride on the dyno.
Now the Temps where 90-93 degrees, 29.93 in-Hg, and Humidity: 29% STD: 1.03. (Not sure how important all those are.)
First run was 356.45 to the wheels but there was a glitch with the torque. It said 410!!! So the next run was 355.55 whp and 355.24 torque. Last run was 348.66 whp and 352.18 torque.
All in all it was a blast. Big shout out to Chip at Auto Engineering in Lexington, MASS. He didnt even charge us!!
I'll email Kyle and Terry the files that Chip emailed me, I didnt get a flash drive, but I can go back to get it next week.
Burger Motorsports FTMFW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant upload the file of the graph for some reason. Can I email to someone so they can upload it??

Sounds about right for 93 Octane and intakes on fully adapted JB3 tune. (I'm guessing you both have 6AT cars too).

if im reading you post correctly...
Seems like the single or dual cones dont make much a difference in power compared to the stock intake...

...where do I get one of those "stock" airboxes, seems it's good for a few hp over the dual cone unit?

No. Not over the dual cones. The stock box was on my cousins run, and the car was cooled before his best run. Also the fans where not strong enough in front of the vehicle.

Without proper cooling fans, you will not see as big of a difference. Its the real world driving, or a dyno with a fan that can simulate 50+mph winds that gives you the real results on filters.

Of course, as you point out, that's precisely the problem with these dyno runs. Unless you have a wind tunnel-like fan (like Dinan does) there's no way you can simulate real world driving. I suspect the stock box isn't ideal but without shoving 60-100 mph air into it, comparisons with coned filters are nearly meaningless.

One of these days, could someone just take the lid off their stock box when making a dyno run? I wonder how such a setup would fair against a single or even dual cone unit.

I don't see anything wrong with 356 whp

Thanks for the info, I vaguely remembered Mr. 5's data, but couldn't locate it - too many dyno runs these days!

So, with the caveat that it's difficult to really compare air intakes without having a massive fan in front of the car, I wonder if a cool mod would be to design a good looking, free-flowing airbox lid? Maybe something in CF with slots or a mesh insert?

With all the aftermarket air filters available, especially the washable ones, I would think that fouling wouldn't be a big issue.
