FS: Nerd stuff - 3x Geforce 8800 Ultra

Sorry for the nerd post but I am getting rid of my computer in favor of using a laptop full time. So I'm selling 1x MSI Geforce 8800 Ultra and 2x EVGA Geforce 8800 Ultras @ 250 a pop + ship if you aren't local otherwise you can pick it up or I can drop it off.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Definitely a fair price. I'm in the same boat as Fizzle. I'm moving away from custom builds and pc gaming. Although if you're going to give them away at a lower price, I might have to jump on it.

why do you have 3 8800 ultras? lol I can understand SLI-ing a pair, but what's the 3rd one for? Anyway, is the MSI the NX8800 Ultra OC or the normal 768mg card? Are they new? I hear the XFX 8800 Ultras you can get for 200 now that the 9800s GTXs are out and the coming of the 9850 OC soon. This sounds like a fairly sweet deal to me though, I may be interested in 1 of these.

The MSI card is the OC version and I had a triple SLI setup going. I've only had them for a couple of months and to be perfectly honest, not all that much used because I had gotten busy with work immediately after. I never got a chance to take a break and sell them until now. I have the boxes, manuals, and accessories for all of them.

Triple SLI... man you make me proud I am a nerd. Haha I may be interested in the MSI card, I'll have to take a look at the prices on tiger or newegg first. You willing to negotiate a bit Shaf? I have the day off tomorrow so I'll go check prices out.

BTW for anyone that wants a decent comp for a good price, slickdeals has a quadcore dell basic inspiron for like 480. I'm buying this for my parents actually.

You'd be hard pressed to find prices for new 8800 Ultras because it's discontinued now. The only place to get them is on ebay where the regular ultras go for about $250 and the OC versions are at least $40-60 more. I'm willing to negotiate so no worries.

OP's price isn't too bad. But GTX 260's are less than that price (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...229-_-Homepage) and offer much better performance. Also on the ATI side you have the 4870's that are competitively priced and offer good performance.

Honestly though, their is no need for good hardware until some good new PC games come out. I have a Tri-SLI GTX 280, Q9650, and a 790i Ultra and was considering switching over to 4870x2 quadfire until I realized I had no games that required the power. (Crysis runs fine here at 1920x1080, 2xAA, 4xAF, Very High).

To the OP, I would suggest selling on Anandtech Forums or [H]ardforum, at which both sites I am an active member (nerd?) as more people would be looking for that kind of stuff. Just make sure to price well, else no one will buy them.

The 8800 Ultras were once $600 beasts, unfortunately time has not been kind to nVidia.

Good call, if anyone else is still interested I'll drop the price from 250 to 200 shipped.

An option would be to SLI two and then use the third to run the phyx accelerator stuff from Nvidia.

Or just straight out run all 3 for games because none of the Ageia PhysX stuff is too great right now. (IE: UT3 w/ PhysX or Warmonger).

Even still, Tri-SLI drivers are still quite immature. In many games you get no benefit over 2-SLI, but when the drivers have the appropriate game profile (for AFR or whatever method is used), Tri-SLI performance is amazing!

These programs only work because their algorithms use inventive heuristics that utilize common patterns and characteristics generally present in passwords and use that to "brute force" an answer (IE: start with a letter (OR upper case) AND end in a [number OR symbol]). The second problem is that key registry databases are notoriously unprotected in Windows; the SAM file consistently returns back values letting the software know if it is on track to finding the password. (Maybe this is a feature so that if someone forgets a password, tools can be used to reset or discover the password?)
In an ideal world we would all use 256 bit RSA or AES encryption keys as our passwords and with that key generated by a random generator using a radioactive isotope as a static reference value.

Ideally one should get at least a Master's degree in Computer Science with an emphasis on cryptography and algorithms (learn about simulated annealing, hill climbing, etc AI algorithms) before using a computer. It is the only way to be truly safe.

But back to the post, yeah if you want to find out the passwords of anyone on your network, those GPUs will make short work of them unless they are as crazy as I am.

I may take one off your hands Shaf for 200. Just lemme make sure my comp can handle it first. May have to upgrade PSU.
