My "new to me" 07' 335i needs a new set of rear tires. I'm running all the standard bolt ons with the MHD stage 2+ tune. The car has a tough time hooking up in 1st or 2nd gear....sometimes even flashing the traction control light in 3rd. It's currently got 275/35/18 tires on the stock wheels (which I think is too big for the OEM wheels)....so I'm planning on going with a 265/35/18.
What's the stickiest tire I can get for the rear that isn't a drag radial? Are the Michelin Pilots still the go to tire for traction and handling....or is there something better out there? I would go with a drag radial....but I've heard they don't last long at all, and handling around corners is horrible.....not to mention driving in rain. Are the Hankook RS4's or any of the max performance summer tires that Nitto makes worth looking at?

How much do the Michelin Pilots give up in performance in order to get the added life? I'm not sure I want to be putting a new set of tires on ever 10,000-ish miles.

That's a Canada problem then. They're DOT approved.

Most likely. They have a DOT, but they also say "For Competition Use" on the sidewall, and that is what is strictly forbidden in the HTA.

I prefer R888R but the treadwear is terrible. Yokohama AD08R is also good but pricey

Well, I ended up going with something a little less tacky that will hopefully still be a decent tire and have good grip. I was ready to pull the trigger on the Michelin Pilot Sport 4’s at $260 each, but after reading a lot of reviews, decided to go with the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tire at $197 each. It sounds like they are just a rebadged Bridgestone Potenza RE003, and those have a great reputation. The Firehawks are an Ultra Performance Summer Tire……and are supposed to be decent in the rain, and really good on dry pavement. From everything I found online……they are just a good of a tires at the PS4’s, unless you start pushing them hard on the track….and then the PS4’s really start to shine.
I figured I can give them a try……I’ve seen a lot of Camaro, Mustang, Charger guys online making pretty big power who say they really hook up on the street. We’ll see I guess…… ![]()
