HPFP recall and 29.2?
Just got a call from my SA that I need to get my HPFP replaced under the recall. Do they automatically put 29.2 on my car if I bring it in for a fuel pump?

I was told that they contacted me because my VIN number showed up in the range specified. If they don't call you, you don't have the magical VIN number. Be happy.
So does anyone know if they update the software when they put in a new HPFP? I really really don't want the mpg/lag/etc. problems associated with the new software. |

If this is not a "new recall" your progman is not required to be updated for the fuel pump replacement. However, if your car has other issues stored in memory the DME will be updated.

I've never had any issues with my fuel pump so I would be hesitant to go in and get mine replaced.
I could see it now--I'll get the new pump and it will fail in 3000 miles. If you're going in to have the fuel pump replaced, I will guarrantee that you will get the 30.2 program. (I think that's the newest program)

I'll bet that BMW will do the update regardless.

The "old" repair protocol (pre-29.2) did not require a progman update, but you may be right given recent events.

I got an oil-cooler retrofit at the dealer, and while it was in there they also replaced the HPFP under recall as well. A program update was not needed for either one (10/06 build), the work was done about a month ago.

My pump was replaced a few weeks ago, no software update. My SA told me his techs hate running the update if they don't have to. Nevertheless, I made it clear that under no circumstances were they to update it and asked him to tell the tech that specifically.

I did tell them no updates unless they are absolutely required. I also told them to give me a call before hand if they did need to.

What's the production date of your car? I am hoping that my car (prod. date 5/07) will get a new HPFP too, not that there's anything wrong with it right now.

I have 16k miles on my '08 (sept/07 build) 335i coupe. The only problem I've had previously is a dead battery cell which was no biggie...dealer replaced the battery.
I chugged into the dealership on 9/6/08 with these symptoms: 1.) long(er) crank 2.) engine malfunction, reduced power 3.) service engine soon 4.) heavy, erratic shaking and shuddering 5.) engine sounded like a union pacific train with loud pumping sound 6.) because of 4 + 5, decide to turn-off the engine or sometimes it just stalls before 7.) after reset, the car becomes drivable but symptoms will reoccur. 8.) able to recreate problem when i mash the gas Pretty sure it's the fuel pump, will see what the dealer says on Monday. Hopefully the new pump is available now since it's September and the '09s should be rolling off the line, if indeed they have redesigned it. Update: ok, picked up the ride last night. they had it for 3 days. they did replace the fuel pump after trying to fix it via a software update (i believe...see invoice below). initial reaction: 1) the car sounds much deeper 2) before i use to be able to hear the turbo spooling around 1500-2200, i have not been able recreate this yet 3) when i floor it, the car does not seem to pick up as fast as before. but all this could just be in my head...also, not sure if i got the lastest and greatest HPFP, no one i talked to could answer if there indeed is a new design (sales or service). |
