Just bought a 2008 335xi

New owner here, just bought a low km 2008 335xi for summer driving on Monday and I’ve seen a ton of posts on here saying how unreliable the car is and how you should run vs walk away from the car. I’m not planning on doing anything to the car and it has been stock its whole life, all recalls have been done according to the BMW website.

Just wondering, for those who currently own the 2007-2010 335 do you have any regrets and how bad really is the reliability? 😳

I have an 08 335xi automatic, 2nd owner since '12. The 1st owner had the original fuel pump and a few other things replaced under original 50k mi warranty. I went FBO after warranty ended but mostly stock now at 94k mi. No issues since ownership but I kept up with basic maintenance, and walnut blasting at 70k.

Looking to replace stock suspension, bushings, and few other mods around 100k. No turbo or drivetrain issues yet but only sees highway on the Wkends. Congrats!!

Both my parents own stock 535xi with n54's. They are pretty much trouble free. Not the same with my 335xi, that car does take more care, but it's modified. What I believe with these cars is that they are easy to own as long as they are Kept stock. It's once you start adding boost that the car needs more work, but it's a pay to play kinda thing and I'm ok with that.

I should also add that I've owned quite a few n54 powered cars and it's the same story with the ones that I kept stock.

Definitely looking at maintenance before performance mods. Is there anyway to check if the hpfp was done? Doesnt show on the carfax anywhere. I’m assuming the dealer would know but im not even sure if a recall was ever issued for it in Canada.

Call the dealer and let them run your VIN. Ask for a whole service and recall printout.

I would say the complaints are always exaggerated online. If the car is Maintained n54s are reasonably reliable (but requires regular maintenance).

My 07 n54 isn’t modded by I budget 1k a year to keep it in good shape. Sometimes I spend less or more but evens out to that roughly.
