Hurricane ees-ah-EE-ahs

Terrible name.

Shortest notice from the news I have seen (downplayed all week until a hint last night and today trying their best to create some panic). No trash pick up tomorrow. Good thing it looks like a weak one that won’t be a direct hit. Probably.

Anyone in FL prepping? I’ll take the plastic trash can off the patio but probably not much more unless the forecast worsens on Saturday morning.

I'm not doing anything besides filling 3 of my 6 gas cans with gas. You know, just in case. And I got 93 octane so I can dump it in the X6M when this thing blows by in an almost uneventful fashion.

Just got back from the gas station myself with 3 cans myself. Just in case. Overnight shift and tomorrow morning will be impossible.

I picked up a case of beer and gassed up the Raptor so I can drive around and investigate during the storm.

Other than that, I think my wife is putting the patio furniture in the house. Last year she put everything in the pool which I told her to never do again.

Definitely no intentional patio furniture in the pool.

Are you using my radar app or just watching the news for updates? I am tempted to buy the premium version to track it better, my Dad said it's the bee's knees.

Big fat nothing. I moved from FL in October (lived in Tampa Bay for 13 years) but still have my house there. NE quadrant will be completely out to sea. It looks like a complete mess on radar. East coast will see some decent rain, west coast will be nice and breezy. I wouldn't be concerned anywhere in the entire state.

Mostly local news for this one but have used Hurricane Tracker and iHurricane for other storms. Also have Storm Radar for regular storms / weather. Those apps are all free and decent enough for me.

Probably not a ton of rain here but we’ll probably get some tropical storm winds. Biggest concern is losing power. It’s really hot out. I picked up enough gas to run generator through Sunday if necessary (which will run one central ac). In the unlikely event that power goes out and remains out on Sunday we will leave for our condo in Asheville.

Stay safe guys! I've been through this so many times when I lived in Miami. Def not fun. Stay safe and take the necessary precautions b/c we know how unpredictable these things can be.

Yep. Just talked to my parents in Dunedin, they said temp at 9pm is forecast to be 85...insane.

I'll share my Irma story since we're talking about hurricanes, power loss, and heat.

My GF at the time and I fled to Pensacola. We came back to my house in Palm Harbor after the storm had passed and had no power in the entire neighborhood. My dad lives in the next town up just a block from the water, so my thinking was we could go there an open up the windows to catch some breeze and get a little relief from the heat (they were in CO at the time). When we pulled into my dad's neighborhood, all of the power was out there too. As soon as we pulled into the driveway, ALL of the lights on my dad's house came on. His was literally the only house on the entire street that had power, and it never went off in the week that we stayed there until the power came back on at my house.

That was pretty fortunate. We lost power for 10 days during Frances and 4 or 5 days during Jeanne (or vice versa). I bought a 17.5kw portable generator after that and had it wired to the panel. We went at least 10 years before needing it for Irma and then for only a day or two. I’m prepared with it again but hope it’s not needed.

Do you have a threshold for what you're willing to ride out? For me, anything over a CAT 2 and I'm gone.

We are pretty far inland (Wellington). It depends on circumstances. We’ve been through several, mostly 1 and 2 but I think Jeanne or Frances was a 3.

Definitely would leave for a 4 or 5 that seems likely to hit anywhere near us. 3 is more of a maybe. 1 or 2 not leaving. We have a condo in the mountains we can go to and can leave for it pretty quickly - just put stuff on patio in garage and let a neighbor know we are leaving. But not interested in sitting in traffic if everyone is leaving, so we’d need to make the decision to go soon enough to avoid that scenario.

Being 2020, be sure the chain saw is in working order. That's the only defense you'll have once the hurricane starts spawning sharknados.

I hope it gets to a cat 2 at least. I might just sleep through it if it stays like it is now.
