Exclamation Raised by Wolves

This looks foking INCREDIBLE!!! I see HBO MAX giving NETFLIX it's only serious competition. Sure Disney+ has The Mandalorian, but not much else.

Disney opts for digital-first release of Mulan, shocking cinema owners

Mulan is first blockbuster to go straight to streaming in response to Covid-19 shuttering cinemas

Liu Yifei stars in Mulan, which will now be offered direct to subscribers for $29.99

Published on Wed 5 Aug 2020 16.13 BST

Disney’s decision to bypass cinemas and offer its latest big budget film Mulan directly to streaming subscribers for $29.99 could signal the beginning of the end for the traditional movie-going experience – and forever change the long-established business model underpinning the Hollywood blockbuster.

The surprise move has stunned cinema owners, who had been banking on the film, along with Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi thriller Tenet, to jump-start box office takings as theatre chains struggle to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.

The move is seismic given Disney’s utter dominance of the worldwide box office – the company made a record $13.2bn in ticket sales last year – with cinema owners believing it would be the last Hollywood studio to look at threatening the 70- to 90-day exclusive “theatrical window” they have enjoyed at the top of the pecking order for newly released films before they head to other platforms.

The Hollywood studios have used the pandemic to experiment with more digital-first output, though to date these straight-to-streaming releases have tended to be small to mid-size budget titles, or projects that the studios have lost faith in as potential box office hits.

Mulan, which was expected to be the latest $1bn-plus grossing film from the Disney hit machine, is the first bonafide blockbuster to go digital-first.

Seriously. It's like they accidentally put 3 different movies in one trailer.

All Studios should be on board instead of pushing shit all the way to next year or beyond...

I am so hyped for this. Maybe you're not. But if you're a fan of Sci-Fi and James Cameron, prepare to be blown away by this Series streaming only on HBOMAX:

It's a ROKU issue, not HBO IMO. They are demanding too much in ad revenue cuts.

You can still bring it up on your phone and cast it to your ROKU device, no worries.

I fancy myself a fairly tech savvy guy, but cant seem to do what you have shared. I signed up for HBO through Roku, so how would I do this? Download the HBO app to my phone, sign in and then cast?

Thanks!

This is going to be device specific but on mine (Oneplus android) I go to settings, bluetooth options and there's a cast option, I have to enable display cast and then I can select my TV, then log into HBO Max and start watching.

Yeah I tried logging in to HBO app on my phone, and of course it said because I subscribed on Roku I cannot log into the app, therefore cannot cast any content. Again, this second rate service is why I canceled it. Hope y'all enjoy, I was truly looking forward to this.

I like it so far, although whenever "an annoying kid who does exactly the opposite of any common sense" plot device is used, things usually go downhill quickly.

DEFINITELY did not see that coming... I figured there would be some sort of connection or reveal, but not in that manner. Some things that I thought were going to end up being red herrings or forgotten plot points got tied together, which was pleasantly surprising. Should be interesting to see where season two takes things.

Overall I thought the season had a one of the strongest starts with the first few episodes being better than almost anything I've seen on television. Middle few episodes seemed to be losing their way for a bit, but in hindsight much of what happened was purposeful, so it's forgiven at this point. Cinematography, directing, acting, and sound design were all on point throughout the whole season.

I give it a solid 9/10 overall.

Honestly... It was a let down.

Too many unanswered questions and WTF moments that seem to be just thrown in.
WITF did she give birth to exactly??? That shit made absolutely ZERO sense. And how in TF did their tiny ass craft plunge into a lake of molten lava and come out in tact?
And how did the one insane roaming face swapping dad manage to take out 3 armed soldiers effortlessly?
I also wanted to see at least one ancient Giant Serpent!

All that being said, I will still watch season 2
