Hi,

There is a very bad and strong woody odour from AC as soon as i turn it on. This odour was there for almost an year or more. Two months back, changed the Cabin Air Filter as well as performed a HVAC Deodarization service was done by the BMW dealer. When i went to the same dealer today to complain about this odour issue and to see if they can help, the representative after inspecting says there is a problem with the evaporator core and refrigerant .Thats the reason for the bad smell. I doubt this. And by the way they want $2600+ tax to fix. I said No and just paid $177 for diagnosis and got my car back.

What should be my next step?

The smell is likely coming from your evaporator as they claim. Unfortunately it is buried deep in your dashboard. It's a common enough problem.

Good news is that there are options to try to deal with the smell besides having them replace the unit.

I agree with freaky. I had the evaporator replaced in my e91 last year and the musty smell was eliminated. Cost me about $2k. Looking over the old one, it was moldy and green -- no wonder it stunk.
