2009 335i - P052B Error

Hi all,

Hope someone can help me here but my car is now running with a very rough idle and throwing code P052B. I just recently changed the oil filter housing and oil cooler gasket. I also changed the spark plugs and cleaned the intake and the exhaust solenoid valves. When I start the car, it gives me a "Engine Malfunction - reduced power" and when I did a scan, I get P052B. Please provide me with suggestions on what I can check. Here is a video of the car running.

I've only got about 70K miles on the car. Thanks.

Good luck, I would say some foreign matter may have entered the system. Error code info: https://www.obd-codes.com/p052b

Using the Bentley manual, P = powertrain issue, O - SAE - 5 - vehicle speed & idle control. 2 - oil pressure switch.

If I were you, I would either clean the oil pressure switch or replace it. I replace mine every 60K miles, they are so cheap and easy to swap. This should solve the issue according to your error code. Good luck!

Edit: the manual reads this error code as "Engine Oil Pressure Switch Range/Performance", as the manual provides 5 readouts for P052, assuming B is the second listed. I would understand this to be the switch itself, as the other 4 readouts for this code are "switch circuit", "switch open", "switch high", or "too low". So again, most likely cause would be a dirty or compromised switch.
