New to this? Confused about JB3? - CLICK
ALOT of people see my sig. and PM me questions about JB3.. and i cant blame any of them, i had the same questions when i was new to this... so i figured id post it so maybe people will read this and not have to ask questions
question: whats the difference between pinout/pnp, 29.2 and pre 29.2 BMS SELLS DIFFERENT "PIGGYBACK COMPUTERS" FOR OUR ENGINE.. juicebox stage 1 (jb1) which adds a little hp/tq juicebox stage 2 (jb2, jb2hhr, jb2x) which has a bunch of different weird add ons to make it faster and juice box stage 3 (the new one, jb3, the one everyone has) the JB3 is probably the best tune you can get for your car.. it comes in 2 versions PINOUT PLUG N PLAY (PNP) both of these do the same exact thing to your engine except the difference is in ease to install/remove ------------ the PINOUT has individual pins you plug into pins in your computer box... it takes a little longer to install, more of a pain in the ass the plug and play just has large black connectors with all of the wires already plugged in, so you connect a few things instead of wires individually by pins the upside to the pinout is that its 200$ less pinout $579 pnp $779 it also ships alot faster, less demand theres also a $200 upgrade to pinout that makes it the same exact thing as plug and play.. so if you buy pinout (like i did, save $) then decide to upgrade to make it easier to install/uninstall... you can always turn it into PNP ------------------ ALSO its going to ask "pre 29.2/post29.2" when you buy our cars computer comes in software versions just like a computer (windows me, xp, vista) for a 335i, youll see.. 25.2, then 26.2 - 27.2 etc it goes up a number everytime they update the software for our cars NOW... with the update from 28.2 to 29.2 there was something added to our computer that can detect tunes if theyre not made right so if your car is older, and you have the old software, and are planning to stay that way - get the pre 29.2 if youre updated, have a new car, or expect to be updated at the BMW dealer, select post 29.2 theres not a major difference at all a little less low end tq i believe... (who cares) ---- my JB3 I have a pinout post 29.2 version on my car that was built in 05/2008 its FAST as shit, youll notice it gain ALOT of speed after a few days youll also notice your able to pull alot of cars that you wouldnt expect to beat... ie.... new m3s, c63 amgs, is-fs etc (beware of 650hp supercharged gtos though ) ======== to those that know what youre talking about, feel free to add things so that people that want to get this dont have to bother terry or rick and can just read this n excuse my retardedness when it comes to the jb1, jb2... in my opinion why would you get one of those? gun for jb3 also dont come on here saying your tune is better... v3 and helix attache are great! they make almost as much HP/TQ as our jb3 if not the same... but for the price / ease - id go JB3 HOPE that answered your questions (to the 4-5 people that were PMing me) im not trying to be a dick by posting this, so if you have any more ?s you can still PM me and ill respond good luck

I dont think it can pull c63AMG's. Maybe keep up. e92 M3's and IS-F can be beaten but not with ease and possibly lose sometimes..

well if u get fmic jb3 dp's intake, u should be able to take alot of 'em... but then again at the end of the day it all depends on the driver as well.

- OP is fed up with people PMing him about differences with JB3, progman, and pinout/PNP. Goes over the differences.
- For all noobs, get JB3 PNP 29.2+ ver., Procede V3, or Helix Attache and STFU.

I want to see how the JB3 PnP version is installed. I have seen some pics, and they all include the pinout which I dont like at all. I just want something like an SSTT except w/ more power. I have seen pics of the JB3 PnP (small black box) looks like a cartridge but have yet to see whats actually involved in installing it, and also what it looks like once installed.
Once I can get a feel of how really PnP it is, then I'll pick one up. For now I feel like its not really PnP, but its just slightly more PnP then the standard but I am prob. wrong... |

So.. all in all, the JB3 is the way to go.. and it really won't void the warranty, I'm quite nervous about this and am a noob as well. I have a bunch of noob questions as well. How hard is it to DIY? or should I take it to a tuner? What if BMW finds out? and if they do void the warranty do they still do the free oil changes or do they scrap everything?
Thanks! |

To answer the question quickly, it's not PnP...you still have to remove a bunch of junk to get to the ECU box, open it up, pop out the DME boxes, slide out the default connectors, plug in the JB3 connectors, plug the default connectors into the JB3, tuck it all in nicely, and close up the box and reattach all of the stuff that was in the way. If you were insane fast, with just the right tools, you can do it in 15 minutes, but most humans probably take 30-45 if they're good, 60-120 if they're n00bs like me. That said, it is simple to do, just takes a little time. |

I know my biggest concern is reliability. I worry about putting my turbos under so much stress (15psi is ALOT for our tiny turbos). While SSTT may not be the fastest mod around, it seems to be the safest.

our turbos are said to be able to safely handle up to 15.9psi
JB3 will be fine with your warranty... buy the post 29.2 version... drive it where/however you like... say youre going to the dealer tomorrow for something.. take it out tonight... pick the car up from the dealer tomorrow... put it back in = ) my dealer is so cool with it, i dont even take it out, but thats up to you to make some friends in the service department lol or pay somebody to look the other way a FMIC is a front mount intercooler... we have one stock but alot of people have upgraded ones and theyre usually dyno proven to gain +20whp... pretty good mod to look at after jb3 and downpipes theres plenty of install videos / directions on youtube... this website... etc. or just have someone on here or anyone thats mechanically inclined install it for u LOL youll really love the jb3... warning though... changing shit on your car ("modding") is fuckin addictive... my pockets been empty ever since i chose a 335 haha loving it tho... its gonna make u wanna drive alot more

how much boost does the jb3 kick it up to vs stock?
What are the expected HP/TQ #s? If its really as simple as remove OEM harness, plug Jb3 PnP harness where OEM one was. Then plug OEM harness onto the other end of the JB3 PnP harness than I will prob. go for it! |

with the new 1.1 maps, terry said peak is around 14psi on a stock car. can be bit more or less, depending on mods, octane, temps , evelation and such.
hp and tq are a increase of 70-80WHP and 70-80WTQ, depending on octane. its tottally PNP from what i have seen, remove old two plug in harness's, install the 2 JB3 harness in the oem place, then plug the oem plug on top of it and close it back up. seems to be now power and ground taps which is good. |
