The harmonic balancer was first replaced by the dealer in 2015 at 67K miles.
It is failing again at 125K miles. Should I replace it again with an OEM pulley that seems to last only 62K miles or try something else, like the fluidampr?

Any good experience with this one:

FAI automotive dampener for m57. Theres a certain guy that sells this for our 335ds, google that and you should find him.

Around January 2019, I proactively changed my OEM damper at ~67,xxx miles to a Fluidamper from tunemyeuro. I'm now at about 72,xxx miles and no issues.

Thanks for the heads-up that they're a good alternative to OE.

I'm getting a quiet but definite knock around 1000-1500rpm. I can only hear it faintly when driving on smooth road surfaces, but it's definitely there and if anything it's getting slowly worse. Is that likely to be caused by the damper going bad? M57TU2 330d, 138k miles.

Also, I remember from putting the stretch belt for the HPAS on mine (~10k miles ago) that it seemed excessively tight. I'm confident it was the right part, and was either from Conti or Gates (can't remember)...could that have contributed to early/accelerated failure?

The failure is that the rubber in the pulley fail and it spins freely. You will smell burned rubber, A/C, power steering and alternator is not working.

I know it fixed my knock issue. I am on #3
#1 OE/70K-rubber tore
#2 BMW/115K-rubber tore
#3 BMW/159K-knock issue.

The last one was FCP warrantied so either upgrade or buy from FCP and you only have to pay shipping.

OE damper failed last winter on wife's X5d 177,000 miles. Bought Corteco from FCP. Maybe it'll last another 177,000 miles. I know the engine will. Fluidampr is superior, just didn't want to mess with dialing it in. Plus Andrew is a good dude. I'll get that for my 335

Good Luck with that Dampr.
Had my original fail at 65k, then Valeo replacement failed at 94k.
Fluidampr was replaced under notice for manufacturing defect at 120k.

I replaced mine with Corteco. I noticed it had a different, slightly updated design compared to the bmw original.

Clutched alternator pulley should be on everyone's "First things to do" list.
If this came stock we wouldn't have all these HB issues.
