I can register battery and read some info from the vehicle in INPA but when I go to read fault codes the list is blank.

When I switch to ISTA I can see all of the fault codes.

I'm not sure the reason for this. The only unusual thing I found is that the footwell module was replaced by a previous owner and was not properly coded to sync with the vehicle mileage. I can see error codes for the previous vehicle the footwell module was taken from in ISTA. Would this play a role in codes not showing in INPA?

Where did you get the downloads.
Bimmergeeks.net downloads are known to work.
Also what is your motor type?
Downloads for Diesels are known to have problems if you have that.

Bimmergeeks the most recent version as of about a week or two ago. I have the gasoline engine 330i.

To my knowledge they use the same interface so I can't see why
one would work and the other wouldn't . Just the same I would
recheck the latency setting in the serial interface.

Run Inpa functional jobs f3 and f4 and provide screen shots
of there are any.

Yes. I switch from COM 1 to COM 9 when running ISTA and back again when going to INPA. The latency I keep the same at 1.

If you have them setup for the same com port there is no reason you
would have to switch.

Also if you set up Inpa first there would be no reason to switch .

Well, I don't see anywhere in ISTA to configure a specific port. When I switch to com1 ISTA fails to read my VIN info.

The configuration instructions I found on many places online all use the default port of com9. I have to go to an odb file, change port=com1 to port=com9, go to Device Manager in Window and change port to com9. Then ISTA works.

How did you configure ISTA for com1?

Got ISTA working on com1 today by opening INPA first, closing then opening ISTA.

If I'm using com9, I can open ISTA up directly without doing anything with INPA first.

To change the com port, you must edit the file obd.ini, which is usually in the directory C:\ediabas\bin, although your drive designation may differ.

Under the heading [ODB], change the entry "Port=ComX" to whatever value you want.

Like this:

[OBD]
Port=Com1
Hardware=OBD
RETRY=ON


So you don't "configure" ISTA for a different com port. It, like INPA, uses whatever is coded in the OBD.INI file

Both INPA and ISTA are layers on top of a library of routines called EDIABAS which performs all the communication with the vehicle.
