randomly cruising about a month ago and I got the 2A82 code. replaced the vanos solenoids and it went away for a day or so. came back again and this time I cleaned the vanos no return valves and changed the oil and filter. got it up to temp and did some pulls and it seemed to perform better and no codes. next day cruising and once it got to temp the codes came back.
I'm wondering if it's the cage for the filter because I changed to a billet cap and the cage has some play while in the cap. Can someone verify if it's supposed to have some wiggle or not?

I don't think it's cam ledges because I have a 335is and I'm 99% sure they have the teflon seals.

any other ideas about whats causing it would be appreciated. TIA

How long after the cap switch did the problem start?
If you suspect that may be the culprit, just switch back and see if the code comes back.
