Stinky exhaust and limp mode

Hi all,

My car has been running very badly lately. I've cleaned the mass airflow sensor, replaced the VANOS solenoids, and replaced both camshaft position sensors. That work cleared up the worst of the problem. However, the other day, I accelerated quickly and the car nearly stalled, threw engine codes, and went into limp mode - yet again. I've also previously replaced all of the ignition coils and the sparkplugs, so it's not that.

I've noticed a sort of clicking sound while it's idling. The initial startup is difficult, and idle is a bit unstable for the first minute or so. The exhaust smells horrible, like it's suddenly running way too rich or something. I'll pull the codes later today with my friend's reader.

My guess is maybe a vacuum leak or the eccentric shaft sensor from what I've read. Any thoughts?

Have you tried clearing the history and seeing what came back?
