I've never noticed this on any of my previous BMW's - when it's raining and I get into my car, the rain dries on the black materials and leaves nasty stains:


Anyone else have this problem? I have to clean the interior every time it rains!

You know what the irony is? The black parts of the dash need far more maintenance than my Lemon leather does because of this!

You got some dirty rain there.


Something like Meguiars NXT Protectant ( vinyl cleaner ) should clean it up and make it look dark black again in seconds

Never seen that around here... Like E90fleet says, try one of the interior detailers (Meguiars makes one). It will clean nicely and add some protection to the vinyl and will minimize things like that..

My wife's Land Rover LR3 did that too. Like espo89 said, get a good quality interior detail solution and wipe all applicable trim. We've had no problems since.

I use the BMW interior cleaner to wipe it each time this happens - is there a solution that will not only get rid of the stains but stop them coming back or am I stuck with it?

Remember, rain is acidic by nature. More acidic if polluted. So generally it won't be good on your interior tirm. I usually wipe them drive if rain drops finds its way inside the car.

Those marks shown in the photos might just be precipitate. Try removing them by wiping with a damp cloth.

i noticed it during the 2 weeks i was drivind a rented e90

the car was new (400 miles) so i was thinking it was some kind of protection on all new plastic in the car that need to be completly removed by cleaning the interior.

I already notice also this problem with some cleaning product (leaving a shiny aspect).

Try to clean your plastic just with clear water.

I had a situation this morning where somehow the windows on my E90 were halfway down all night and it rained pretty hard. The car was drenched. I wiped it all down with a clean, dry towel(I have leatherette interior), but it left seriously bad looking white areas on the seats and doors. I then wiped it down with the armor all CLEANING wipes(not the protectant ones). The interior still looed bad tho.

HOWEVER, I had to take my daughter to the doctor(routine checkup) and when I came out later, the car had dried and everything seemed to look normal again. Seems I got lucky, as I can't find any hint of the white spots. I was very surprised at this because I was actually gonna head to my dealer and have them see what they can do.

I guess my question is, does BMW sell a "leatherette" cleaner/protector? If not, what other do people recommend(I see onte Mequires recommended up in this thread)?
