Idrive, 6FL, IPod Classic 160Gb, Freezes after two weeks (approx usage)
I have recently taken delivery of a new 530d with the 6FL connector. I purchased an Ipod 160Gb classic and use it in the car for music and podcasts. Podcasts are created as playlists so that I can get to them easily in the car.
My problem is that the Ipod works great for a couple of weeks or so and then 'freezes'. by which I mean the Idrive display says 'loading data from audio device' and nothing happens. the only way I have found of fixing it is to completely re install the Ipod music (ie from scratch) and is completely impractical. I have had the car checked and it is running the latest software, the Ipod is completely up to date in terms of firmware and I am manually syncing music, playlists and podcasts. my options are pretty useless, ie reload it every time it happens, or go back to an earlier model Ipod (second hand from EBay I guess) until BMW sort it out! I wondered if there is someone who has found a simple way of solving this? regards Kerry |

I have a 160 classic. Yeah, about once every 2 weeks, I have to reset the ipod. Middle button + up button for about 10 seconds. Usually that fixes it. I don't think buying another piece of hardware is the right fix.

I have been using my 160GB Ipod classic with the 6FL option with zero issues.

thanks for the prompt response
cheers guys, however I have tried the reset buttons and that does NOT fix it, hence the worry.
can I check, because Idrive does not have a 'podcast' option I organise my podcasts into seperate playlists, could this be an issue. also, can you guys tell me EXACTLY how you sync your Ipods, it may be the way that I sync it that is causing the issue. at the moment mine is set to sync manually with a single playlist that contains every track (because I tunes is so crap at organising large libraries) so that I can remove stuff I dont want. what I will do is emulate your settings and see if that fixes it, I agree, new hardware is completely unacceptable! thanks all Kerry |

I would wager it might be the Y cable.
Getting the latest Y cable solved my iPod Classic's intermittent stuttering problem and there was a clear (in)compatibility issue there.
