Making E91 M Sport rear bumper from E90

Since E91 M Sport rear bumper is impossible to find, would this idea work?

Cut the top half of a standard E91 rear bumper and bottom half of an E90 M Sport bumper and join them together using plastic weld. Smooth, sand, prime, paint.

Has anyone tried this?

Can anyone who had the rear bumper off comment on how the support brackets work? Would they pose a problem with this approach?

You can walk into any BMW dealer and order the e91 msport bumper. You can also place the order with countless online retailers. Non PDC part number 51127907255.

What you're suggesting has been done countless times with e90m3 rear cover adapted to e91 rear end. It's very doable, takes a lot of time and obviously $$$. The final product can be good, but the first time you get bumped, you'll be doing it again.

I would advise you against it in this case where you can buy one off the shelf without any issues. I've bought probably 15 of them in the recent months/years.

I understand your points, but the math here is:
- new bumper from dealer (CAD$1240 + tax) = $1426 (https://shop.bmw.ca/p/BMW__/Bumper-t...127907255.html)
- paint: $400
- DIY install

So, I have a $1826 incentive to attempt this as DIY and perhaps do this for half price.

I looked at bmw.ca price and shit myself at the cost. Plus I believe the bumper brackets are different, the under panel and you'd still need the diffuser on top.

Have you tried ebay.co.uk? see if you can maybe find an alright one in your colour? shipping might be a few hundred but its better than 2K I'm sure.

I've contacted MANY vendors and no one wants to ship across the pond and the 1% that is willing, the cost is around $500-$600.

Damn that sucks to hear. I've been trying to watch for a white-pre lci M-sport bumper(we never got here) but most don't list shipping sadly.

I wonder if shipping actually does cost that much (I have friends/family over there)

Yes, it really costs that much, unfortunately. Bumpers are light, but bulky, so the usual postal service won't accept them. You need then LTL quote and that's pricey.

Same question. I know someone did it , but he did not document it.

- I have a E90 m pack bumper 0$

So I want to try to weld bumpers to create a rear M E91 one.

Also, Ive checked at the dealer they are 1680$cad now + tx ! Add paint and those will be in the 2300$ cad

I'd look for an aftermarket E91 M Sport version.
I got lucky and found an OEM one, but from my research, aftermarket ones fit well.

not much locally.

Shipping is insane. Ill pay 700$usd + 250$usd shipping + customs. So near a OEM from the dealer...

Ill need to check closely where to cut .

Plastic welder are cheap. Then reinforce the back with JB weld or fiber glass.
Bondo to the front.

Hope it doesnt crack, and paint.

I saw a guy who did this on a non-sport VW to a sport.

Ill try, can be a fun project.
