New HKS Exhaust for E90 335i Sedan review
Hey everyone,
I just got my new HKS exhaust installed by HKS USA, Inc. I offered to have my car as an R&D test car for their new dual titanium full cat-back exhaust system. This is a brand new kit for the E90 335i sedan. Everything in this kit is exactly the same as the titanium exhaust kit available from HKS for the E92 335i coupe. The only difference between the sedan and the coupe exhaust kit is that the sedan exhaust tips are 35mm shorter than the coupe exhaust tips. The exhaust pipes fit perfectly and uses all the OEM hangers and brackets. The installation was very straight forward and simple. As for the sound, it doesn't drone at all. At low rpm, the exhaust volume is very low, but when at full throttle, the car comes alive and has a very noticeable and agressive note. With the windows rolled up, there is only a slight increase in exhaust volume but not annoying at all. Performance gains are inconclusive, because my car wasn't dyno'ed after install. I was told to expect the same horsepower gains as the E92 HKS exhaust kit. Visually, the exhaust tips are awesome. The blue titanium tips really accent the aggressive racing look that the E90 and E92 have. From the rear, it doesn't look boy-racer at all. Overall, I'm very happy with this exhaust system....I've included a video clip with pictures. Enjoy! I've heard it on an E92.. it l ooks great with the titanium tips and all.. but, it was just a tad pricey. I remember a sponsor on this forum was selling them for close to $2k. It is a fairly quiet exhaust... but, absolutely no droning.

Mike and I used to live very close to each other, while growing up. Now I'm all the way over in Ventura County, and he's out in the SGV and IE area. Man, makes me want to swap out my exhaust now.

HKS has always made great products, and they've been around for awhile.
Mike, what else does HKS need? I will leave my car at their HQ as long as they need it. Since I'm on the train 98% of the time these days and drive the E46 to the station, I'll be willing to make my car their E92 R&D car for other tuning stuff. Couple observations with this exhaust: 1) Sounds great 2) Looks great 3) The canisters look fairly light 4) Pricey, but what exhaust isn't when you look at HP gain for the dollar Thanks for sharing Mike. Let's see it live at Fontana next month.

I want to know who wrote this review for Mike. The grammar and spelling are too perfect.

I'm sold on this exhaust for my E92, and I'm absolutely not being stubborn, but I love my cars to sound extremely aggressive, and quite frankly, I like them loud. LOL.
How's it sound? I love how the stock E92 sounds but it's just too quiet for my taste. Maybe steer me to something else that will be a little louder? I don't want it to sound like a rice rocket either. Thanks!

Sounds amazing. One of the best I've heard so far.

I think the video above is actually misleading.. It sounds loud in the video, but it's not that loud. PM Usc335, he has it installed on his E92. maybe he will be willing to give you more info about it. |
