SSTT re-installed after service (and a couple of polishing pics)
Had my car in for it's first service last week so day before i took out my SSTT piggyback (same as Superchips but bought in USA for half price). Car felt so slow and reluctant to rev after removing. No problems with the service, no codes brought to my attention or anything. Ran the car for a week as normal and though most of the time the car was fine, overtaking was a bit more stressful as I waited for the power to come. I never thought I'd say it but this week the 335 has felt so so slow. So this morning refitted the chip. OH MY GOD the car just pulls and pulls and pulls. It's wet up here today but full throttle at 30 in third gear had me wheel spinning all over the place. The turbo comes on so much stronger so much earlier with no loss at the top end, in fact I would say it's even better at the top. The car adapts over the next day or two so it'll only get better.
So for anyone lo0king for more power for a 335 try and get a hold of one. It really is night and day to standard and I'd say a match for an e46 M3. I ran a quarter mile with it a few months ago and managed a 13.22. Not bad for my first ever drag Also been doing a spot of polishing, not too bad even if i don't say so myself! This is taken in the door- side image and lastly the boot Last edited by Finnie; 10-20-2008 at 07:01 AM.. Reason: Apparently I can't spell or type! |

Excellent result. Obviously you're not from my neck of the woods, I think I might have noticed your car - or maybe my eyes can't resolve a black blur!

Hi there Finnie mate. Hope you're well. Car looks amazing, I can categorically say it was never that clean when I owned it (and I thought I kept it pretty clean!!!). Would love to witness an 'upgraded' 335i; must be due a new set of tyres by now!!!
On the verge of buying the missus a little truck thing so wish I'd kept hold of the 335i now. My mate is selling his and I'm mightly tempted (along with a raft of other things!!).

Car looks excellent matey!
Have you been polishing it yourself? Have you any experience or a newbie? You polishing machine looks very similar to the Porter/UDM I purchased the other week c/w sonus polishes, etc.... Not had the time to touch mine yet - is it a straightforward task. 'Mark II' has offered to help when the time comes and I wll take him up on his offer, but all advice is welcome! |

Thats right it's a porter cable which i bought a couple of years ago. Did it all myself, 5 days in toltal to de-swirl and to be honest still not happy with it. A few deeper scratches to come out. I do the odd other car for pocket money, just finished a newly painted 20 year old fiat 126, coolest wee car I've ever seen. It's all easy enough it just takes time and practice. First recomendation is tht make sure you work the polish properly. I aim to work 2 foot square at a time, moving 1 inch per second and try to make 15 to 20 passes to make sure it's fully broken down.
Thanks for the comment Roger, it really is night and day though. I've done a few miles today and can't believe the difference. Coming home just now I managed wheel spin in third at 70% throttle. I was thinking of a new shape M3 but I don't see it's needed really, I'm still getting 29mpg out of the 335i |

H&R sport I think (might be race), car is on a steep slope there but yes it's quite low. Never bottom though, it's a very good set up and is actually more comfy than standard especially with non run flats.
Hers a couple of full car pics from earlier in the year |

Hi mate
SSTT is fantastic! great mod, IMO its whips the e46 m3 in a straight line, but not as raw and composed, but an M is an M only downside is that its added £150 + to my insurnance (13% power increase) new quote from Direct line is the best @ £790 with a £750 excess! crazy! |

I only declared less than 10% I think though it may have been 15 cant remember, are they going to dyno the car? and anyway should go wrong I'm hoping to be able to remove it before any inspection.
With admiral and also have wheels and Suspension declared. Also have front and rear valances declared but haven't got round to actually fit them yet. I'm with elephant for about £500. Declare someone older that you on the policy, my Mum is on mine and takes the premium down by £200 |

Finnie, your car looks beautiful.
Also are they reps or original BBS? What MPH was your 1/4mile and auto/manual?

Terminal speed wasn't measured but I was over 110 when I hit the brakes. I came 5th of the night with that time. Car is manual and think I could manage better tbh. I beat a 911 first run but in the end his second run was faster than my first but I know I beat him by quite a margin and even then I got a poor start. Shocking thing was a seat ibiza managed exactly same time as me! It was just slightly modded
Wheels are original BBS I use sonus and edge pads with menzerna pro polish finished with either megs No 7 glaze or CG acrylic. This time topped with Dodo juice purple (or was it blue) wax |

It was a mickey mouse charity thing so only start finish time.
Having chipped the 335i with the sstt I am now sure that I wouldn't buy an M3, no offense to anyone who has one. The sstt is supposed to be running an extra 40bhp at the wheels and cost me just £250 (ok bought from america but sold on by superchips in the uk with a new sticker) The 335 spins it's wheels in the wet in third gear really quite easily so in this country if you are not tracking it then what is the point. If you want more power then you can get a JB3plug and play which puts out an extra 70 to 80 whp. This can be bought for around £400 and if i could sell the SSTT I'd be buying that to try. Then again I'd love the idea of having the M3 especially with the lsd but that can be bought for a grand ish so I think I'll save my 15 to 20k and buy a toy. Oh yes and I'm getting 29mpg. I've also seen 335i's at dealerships for less than 25k now! Depressing!!!!!!! Please don't get offended m3 drivers. I love them and am probably just trying to convince myself! |

Mate The M3 is a better car. On the road the performance of a tuned 335i/335d means there pretty close to the M3.
On track the M3 is a far superior car. Its chassis so finely balanced and hooked up compared to a cooking 3 series. for what straightline performance advantage a 335i can be tuned too. Its alost on track as the power can not be put down cleanly on exiting a bend. The M3, has no struggles in this department.
