Paint damage...

Hello All,

The unthinkable happened today with my baby today... I touched a curb in the front--the radar system was WAY off (I park here daily and can judge it well but I've become so accustomed to the radar guidance). Any advice on how to fix this? I'm very handy and was going to try to smooth out with 1000-3000 grit paper and then try touch up paint. I don't need perfection as it's a lease. Any thoughts?

(Also, yes, the car is filthy--went on a long road trip recently)

Thanks,
FS

How much longer do you have on the lease? I normally make it look worse when I try to fix things like this. However, I get it, even if you had a few months left, it would drive me nuts. Maybe add a front lip that would cover it?

Napa Auto Parts. Take the paint code down and they can mix up some in a spray can and some left over for a brush. Sand it down, mask it off and let 'er rip. I had similar (tho not as bad) events to my lip on a carbon black M550 and a Doningtom M5. After painting you couldn't really tell if you weren't looking and you could barely tell if you were and got up close.

Worst that happens is you eff it up and then take it to a body shop.

Good luck

This is what I was looking for!!! I don’t care if I make it worse bc then I’ll just take it to a professional. But this would be a learning experience for me. Any advice on sanding? Thanks!!!

First, get some polish or Scratch X on there and see what's left after that. You might be surprised how much goes away...

That looks like it might be scuffed with paint on it...which might come off with Scratch X and leave you with some minor lines the same color as your car.

Oh, yeah. Scratch X it first. It might help a little, but you look pretty dinged. I only sanded lightly. Then painted with kind of a mist, so wasn't a full in spray job. Couple of coats. The paint matched extremely well and I was just trying to get it to look like the paint hadn't been scratched through to the underlying plastic. No one ever said anything at turn in time.

real paint.

But a skillfull painter could actually blend that lip, since it's in between those two edges. Not every shop would try it though.
