Vishnu Multi-Gauge System
Hi guys,
Just in case anyone is the search for a high quality, fully functional, well-placed monitoring system that can display nearly 20 different parameters: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...62#post3571162 On Sale Monday Sorry the pics are too great. They came from my iphone ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Contents: 1) 52mm OLED (Organic LED) 16-bit color, 20,000 pixel high res display. 2) Boost module capable of reading up to 30psi of boost 3) OBD-II/CAN controller 4) 4 button remote control 5) Custom gauge mount 6) Gauge visor 6) All necessary bits (vacuum line, Tee and wiring) DETAILS Customized proprietary hardware ![]() For some reason, the standard off-the-shelf hardware induced a fair bit of radio noise in the 335. It was only audible when listening to weaker radio signals. And it was only generated when viewing the secondary displays (not the default Vishnu Boost display). So the PLX guys developed special noise reduction new circuitry in the control unit just for us. Those who live in a canyon and listen to very weak radio stations may still hear a bit of clicking when thumbing through the OBD displays. Custom proprietary easy-to-reference display ![]() We designed a new N54 specific display that combines everything we ever wanted in a digital gauge. It displays a boost value numerically as well as in a multi-colored sweeping bar graph where boost values of up to 10psi are displayed in green, 10-15psi in yellow and above 15psi in red. Being able to reference you boost pressure from the "corner of your eye" by just looking at color and a high res bar graph placement (15psi is straight up) was a priority for us. The boot up display also displays our company logo which, of course, is the best part. Custom gauge/remote mount ![]() ![]() (prototype shown) We experimented with mounting the gauge (which is wafer thin once removed from the housing) in the air vents. It looked nice but when driving hard, my hands would inevitably block the display and require me to tilt my head and take my eyes off the road. Not good for a primary gauge. So we built a custom mount to place the gauge in the best possible location. Not only can you see it easily without taking your eyes off the road, it's also easy to remove when the need arises. The gauge mount also holds the 4 button remote on the left side. Both the remote and the gauge can be moved around/rotated on the mount a bit to accommodate people of different height and variances in seating position. Functionality ![]() Quite honestly, it's ridiculous how much information this gauge displays. It's equally ridiculous in how many ways this information can be displayed. Not only can you monitor boost/vacuum, IAT, ignition advance, coolant temp, short and long term fuel trims, RPM, engine load, TPS, road speed and more, you can also view them in a standard gauge format, line graph (think realtime datalog display) or numerical display. For more information about all the various display options, go here and here. Honestly, until now, I've never been a big fan of having gauges in my street car. I usually end up putting them in my glovebox and pulling them out when I want to monitor something. But with this one single gauge, I can view over a dozen different parameters by just clicking threw the buttons on the remote. And more importantly, I can program the gauge to flash red when any one of four parameters goes above or below a user programmable threshold. These are the kind of features I used to associated with the AIM/Motec dash on my shifter kart and race cars. To get this kinds of functionality in my street car, all from a single plug-in gauge, is just ridiculous. I'm a convert. THE SALES PITCH Great for Track Junkies Of course, the gauge also offers peak-and-hold features as well as a programmable warning system for up to 4 different parameters. This is excellent for track junkies who can set up their alarm to alert them if coolant temp, IAT, boost, etc,. go to high (or even too low!) Great for Tuners With the ability to view ignition timing realtime in a plot graph, it's easy to spot ignition retard and know when you are running too much boost for you conditions (octane, temp, etc,.) This is critical for those looking to extract maximum safe power out of their car. Great for those with 29.2 and up cars running tunes With the ability to view short and long term fuel trims, the user can keep boost where it needs to be in order to avoid tripping the tune/manipulation code. Great for Diagnostics Yes, you can also view and clear standard OBD-II trouble codes with this gauge. I've spent more money on generic obd-II laptop software than I have on this gauge set-up. Great for Stealth The heavy duty aluminum gauge mount is held securely on the ledge in front of your dash with just three velcro strips. There are recesses on the bottom of the mount for the velcro strips so that the mount sits flush on the dash surface. Both the gauge (which weighs next to nothing) and remote are held on the mount with two small velcro strips. This means that in order to completely remove the entire gauge system from sight, all you need to do is: 1) Unplug the OBD cable from the OBD port. 2) Pull the gauge and remote off of the mount. 3) Lift the mount from the dash 4) And stuff everything in the glovebox. Total Time for removal: ~10 seconds Total Time for re-installation: ~20 seconds The two electronic modules stay hidden in the space behind the glovebox. Cheers, Shiv PS. And yes, before anyone asks, we are looking into connecting the PROcede directly to the gauge so you can display, upload, user adjust, and switch maps right from the gauge (which is like a little HD TV). This would eliminate the need for a laptop. It would take some time and a lot of work but I think it would be pretty damn cool. PSS. If there is enough demand, we can put together a vent pod. But before you ask for it, sit in your car with your hands on the wheel and see if that location makes sense to you. For me (6' tall) and my driving position, it doesn't. And it also makes temporary removal a hassle. Last edited by OpenFlash; 11-01-2008 at 04:36 PM.. |

![]() $224 is for the boost-only set-up. $324 is for the full OBD-II+boost set-up. Both kits include custom mount, hardware and software. This discounted price is only for people who purchased the following directly from us: 1) PROcede (any version) 2) V3 harness upgrade For others (those running other tunes, those who bought their PROcede used, etc,.), add $100. Cheers shiv Last edited by OpenFlash; 11-01-2008 at 04:01 PM.. |

PLX makes good stuff; really reasonable too.
I like that anyone can create their own background, gauge type, etc. using their FREE software. Previous PLX related post here -> http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=169979 |

They also have a patent on the OLED displays for automotive use. Which means they are the only game in town when it comes to this kind of technology. Frankly, I'm still loving the fact that, as a tuner and map developer, I can monitor and log ignition advance, coolant temps and all the fuel trims without carrying my laptop around. How times have changed ![]() lol.. nice catch ![]() Shiv |

Shiv,
Looks good. But can you provide details on how it all plugs in please? To me it looks like the OBDII would need to be plugged in 100% of the time? Cheers, S |

The OBD plug is designed to be plugged in all the time. No problem at all with that. But you can remove it if you need to for some reason. The gauge will still work and read boost. You just wont be able to read OBD data. Shiv |

That's a very nice gauge setup you guys came up with. I really like the placement of the gauge.

You have to be kidding me! I just purchased Rixeffect guage and now you come out with this...I liked it alot because of all the options and the amount of info the guage system records, but I have to say that I am happy with my vent guage...Nice guage setup though for those of you who want that race car feel!!! I prefer the more subtle look, but too bad my guage can't read all those things!!
Nice job |
