Horrible screeching sound while driving
So after I dropped a friend off yesterday, as I pulled out into traffic this screeching noise starts and at first im thinking its my wheel rubbing on asphalt.. obviously the car kept driving as I made it back home so this wasn't the issue. When I stopped to check at a gas station I noticed all 4 tires were fine. So I continued driving home thinking it might be something to do with the brake wear sensor rubbing or a belt.. Well now its still driving fine and I haven't heard it or anything like it since then and have no drive ability issues. Also have checked the belts and everything looks the same as usual. And mind you it was loud enough for drivers around me to hear if for sure, yet no one signaled to me anything like they would have if a wheel was missing. Anyone have a clue as to what this could be?

damn u got me again for this. Always when I'm half asleep too!
2011 bmw 335d 144k miles.. It started when the car had been running for at least 20 minutes. Started randomly and I thought it was a flat tire because it was only making the noise when I was moving. Yet tires are only 2 months old. Another thing is my oil level was at least 2 quarts low and I filled it last night. It was thee first and the last time I've ever heard the sound, but it made me super nervous, like it was time to take her back to the shop again. |

And ya it was about 2, maybe 2.5 quarts low I believe. And I haven't had to either. I did notice an influx of oil in my intercooler though when I started cleaning it out about a week ago. Yesterday I went all out and disconnected the intercooler, the turbo outlet hose and the other charge pipe and cleaned them out. The red outlet hose was obviously covered in oil and there was an equal amount on the inside just layering the walls. I did get to clean out a lot of grease from the intercooler but I think I did the majority of the cleaning a week ago.. I had noticed it was all black and greasy on the front side of the intercooler opposite the red turbo outlet hose, so I sprayed some WD40 and noticed it started dripping oil. I got the hose and sprayed it out just while it was still hooked up and a large amount of oil mixed with water rushed down the street. I now wish I would have waited to see how much may have come out if I didn't clean it like this beforehand. Could this have something to do with my turbo switchover actuator not working for a long while? I mean maybe the increased pressure when I fixed it caused a large amount of oil to be sprayed down the pcv hose through the intercooler? Also increased heat 🔥 might account for a little bit more burnt oil as well? |
