painting the hub?
Hi,
I'm probably using the wrong terms here as I'm not really familiar with this stuff, so apologies in advance. After changing my wheels the other day, I had a heck of a time getting them off the hub of the car. Kicking, mallet -- all were a no-go. Had to follow the trick of reattaching the lugs, loosening them 1 turn or so, lowering the car off the jack, then driving back and forth 20 feet a couple of times. That worked. Taking the wheels off, I could see a bunch of rust on the hub. Prior to putting the new wheels on, I slapped on some anti seize on the portion of the hub that touches the wheel. I'm guessing that will help the next time I try and take these wheels off. Getting back on track... there is a portion of the hub that the wheel doesn't touch. It looks pretty ugly -- unpolished metal that also has a bunch of rust spots. In addition, some of the grey anti seize was applied a little too enthusiastically, and is visible on the portion of the hub that the wheel doesn't cover. This got me to thinking ---- what do people do about this ugly portion of the car? Can the hubs be painted with some kind of heat resistant paint, kind of like the brake caliper paint kits? Or is this not recommended? My car is black sapphire, I was thinking the hubs would look nice black so it doesn't look like a rice caliper job... |
