Question E92 sport rims winter setup?

I tried a search but couldnt find the answer to these questions...

can i drop down to 17" rims from 18" without caliper problems?

can i ride non staggered front and rear rims with all season or snow tires and still have good traction?

so on a 2009 335i sedan with sport (18x8 and 18x8.5), can i ride 17x8 front and back with all season tires without a problem?

thanks.

I run 17x8 all around for a winter set up and stagered in the summer. You actually get better winter traction (in snow) with a skinnier tire. A wider tire, in any measurable snow, will actually float. While a skinnier tire will cut through the snow eaiser.

Think of farm tractors, mud trucks, plow trucks, with exception of state highway plow trucks, usually have tall skinny tires. I used to plow snow in northern MN during high school, and I can tell you wide tires, or duallies are not good for traction in measurable snow.

MN BMW...
...do you have snow tires or allseason?

do you have a 335i?..i'm concerned about 225 in the rear handling the torque of the car.

thanks.

I run snow tires. Blizzack 225/45R17 RFT on OEM style 158 on a 328. A dealership here in town sells it as a package. Its spendy believe me. I don't think you'll have to worry. I know the dealership has sold many of these to packages to E9Xs, 328 and 335 alike.

I understand your concern about the torque. My other driver is a 95 chevy K1500 with a built 383 stroker. It throws 325hp and 400lb-ft to the ground. It may not seem like much but that is with a 20% parasitic drivetrain loss that chevy claims these trucks had, it can be a beast. It has normal all season light duty truck tires on it and I'm fine.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that no matter what you chose to do, you will have to adjust your driving habits a bit and use your DTC. I haven't had an issue yet, although I don't have the same amount of torque. Good luck.
