Icon meanings??.. Phone/Blue tooth, signal strength??
On the I-drive window...
In the bottom center is the signal strength indicator. To the left, I have seen three different icons. A "cell phone", a triangle, or nothing... DOes anyone know what each is indicating? Is the signal strength the strenght of the bluetooth signal or the Cell signal strength? |

The Cell Phone means that your phone is connected via bluetooth.
The Triangle means that you are roaming or not in your home area (ie verizon has no roaming but when I am in certain parts of the state I am not using verizon towers but US Cell towers and it shows a triangle). The bar indicator shows the strength of your cell phone when it is attached and of the built in phone for the bmw assist when it is not...though mine quit showing that after my last software update. |

Pulling up an old thread here because today was the first time the little "cell phone" icon showed up on my nav screen. I've been using BT since I got the car and it works great, just no little cell phone icon normally. Previously, it would just show the little antenna and signal strength.
I use a Blackberry and this was the first time it synched while the BB was in "keyboard lock" mode (so you can put it in your pocket and not worry about accidentally hitting buttons). The phone worked fine from iDrive, no different than before, just this new little icon up there. I unlocked the keyboard while I was stopped at a light, but the icon didn't go away. Not that this makes any difference in how it works, but I found it odd.

Actually, very few calls are missed when the phone is connected via Bluetooth to the car.
Usually, the missed call icon appears when a call is answered via call waiting.

the cell phone icon will come and go for no apparent reason on my iDrive -- none of the reasons mentioned above fit.
I don't think I've ever seen a triangle. Just a cell phone or no cell phone. I have a Motorola V710.

The icon was there again today even though I didn't miss any calls. But as soon as I checked the "missed calls" list (there were two, from the other day), the icon went away. I'm sure that's what it is, just as needforspeed said.
