Bad boost solenoids ?

2007 335i (93k miles)
My coupe has been experiencing some weird boost leakage type problems since I recently installed my 5" stepped intercooler, double checked the couplings too and they're forsure not loose. I do have really bad wastegate rattle. Always have had it. The power on the car though has recently took a downfall. Doesn't even feel like my car has any turbos atm. 17ts will be coming soon. Going to replace both boost solenoids soon because idk when the last time they've been replaced was as the owner before me didn't take care of the car properly. (Handling the maintenance things first before blowing a bag on some turbos that will probably make the parts I'm replacing, fail in the future.

Weird thing though I'm getting a 02 code too with the low boost code ? I just replaced the 02 sensors last January of 2021 it is April 2022 now. The 02s themselves have about 5k-6k miles on them could the solenoids be causing this code too or could 02 senors really go bad that fast with a tuned car. Only push the car on the weekends rarley so let me know ? My car is stage 1 fbo with stock turbos no inlets (yet).

Have a read through this guide.

Have you got downpipes installed?

FBO is FMIC, Intake and Downpipes

I will try the boost solenoids first for a cheap route. When I start my car though it is very rough and laggy trying to start it. It feels like someone's lightly bumping my car and it feels like the engine skips when cold. Feels bumpy at first. When warm it runs fine

Downpipes are why you have the conversion codes, no worries there. 30FF could be bad solenoids. Do you have any logs?

Will get some data logs today and post update. As of now though I can barley reach 3 psi even in 1st or second gear running on stock turbos a stage 1 base MHD map (boost was not turned up or down) before this

Check ur vacuum lines
Not saying boost solenoids don't go bad but I'd check everything before doing those

Checked all vac lines except the front turbo line all are good no cracks or loose ones took off cover and check ones under too all good. Still going to upgrade the vac lines though for maintenance purposes

Stage 2+ is the map you should be on, if you have FMIC+Downpipes not stage 1.

Check everything over , follow the guide, vacumn lines, IC connection points, BOV, Vacumn cannister connection points, etc

If you haven't replaced them, good idea to replace all vac lines, they're cheap.

I was planning on going stage 2 before all of this started happening, I'll flash a stage 2 base map and see what it does if the codes go away I'll let you guys know. I just didn't wanna flash a map the cars not ready for you know.

UPDATE ! Went stage 2 + on MHD BASE MAP cars boost feels like it's almost back but I can still feel it lacking somewhere. Tune makes the car feel great though ! Thank you for the tune advice. Still gonna replace the solenoids and then from the solenoids I'll look closer into the intercooler itself and make sure it's not busted somewhere…

At least the Cat codes gone. It's still way off boost target though, it could also be your wastegates not shutting properly, but let us know if boost solenoids make a difference.

Try adjusting the WG actuator arm to see if rattle goes away.

Also can you post the link to the Datazap.me log?

Difficult to see everything from screen shot

I probably have the worst waste gate problem in this forum also wish i could post videos... It also might be that time for upgraded turbos. But I'm gonna replace these solenoids then get back to you all in a week or so…

Your WGDC does not seem excessively high like it would be in the event of a boost leak, so I am more inclined to believe solenoids, your wastegates, or a vacuum supply to either of those are your issue.

I know you checked over your vacuum lines but if you have a vacuum gauge I would check it before the vacuum canisters. This is how I discovered a pinhole leak in my vacuum pipe (the one that connects right to the vacuum pump)

UPDATE : new boost solenoids should be coming in 2 days courtesy of FCPEURO, mine as well get that lifetime warranty since it's available. Will look into getting a harbor freight vac gauge too, I've been needing one.

I'm saying turbos, waste gate rattle still over heard over the spool, pretty sure one of the blades is bad too. Any suggestions on some good 17ts ?

Have you even tried with no 30FF code present? The DME isn't commanding it to boost in the first log and I'm guessing the same for the last log. If everything were working perfectly, it still wouldn't be making boost over base because it's not being told/allowed to.

Clear codes, let the car go to sleep for a few minutes and try again. Check to make sure no 30FF/3100 codes are present before you start. If boost control still isn't active with neither code or 30FF can't be cleared, something else is going on.

If 30FF trips easily/routinely, log when it occurs and post it to datazap or spool street Screen shots from your phone are useless. Add boost mean to your logs.

Definitely start by testing vacuum first. Turbos are last resort. Make sure you're getting basically 25 in/hg of vacuum right before the boost solenoids

Edit: Definitely listen to RSL as well. Not many people's advice i'd take over his.

I'm pretty happy with the RB Game Finishers 17ts. I hit full boost around 3200rpms and they have been reliable for the past two years.
