Exclamation

Hi all. I have an issue with my power steering. 318d 2009. Bimmerlink says control unit does not respond. Have the yellow steering wheel light with the exclamation mark on the dash. Steering comes and goes but is mostly without power steering, light stays on regardless and cannot clear it. Questions I have are
1. Where is the power steering control module located? ( I read somewhere that it could be in the floor of the passenger side footwell) I have recently had a minor leak develop in that area and thought maybe that could be related so would like to confirm if that's it's location before pulling my interior apart. I also read it could be inside the wheel arch cover
2. I cannot seem to find the fuse location for the same control unit. There's no diagram in the car or it's manual and there's a few online but none identified where the fuse is. They don't seem to match my box. Don't want to start pulling fuses as I'm aware that could cause other issues
3. Is it more likely that the motor is failing? It's random when it does or does not work and can't seem to find a specific cause. I've had it 1 1/2 years and never had an issue until recently. Don't want to fork out for a whole rack if its not necessary.

Any help would be massively appreciated as I'm getting annoyed with it, I am new to bmw and a bit clueless with cars in general but I'm trying to educate myself as best i can. But info on this specific issue is hard to find. Hoping somebody here can help 🙏🏻

eps has control unit inside directly below motor, between front bumper and motor support
their connector not very good isolated and can corrode after some time
so this is what requires inspection
therefor there is not fuse for that inside. main power to eps goes directly from battery using separate wire. and some control circuit with fuse or relay could go from electronics box in motor compartment
