6MT tranny question
i would like to know if this is common on new 09 e92 i still have under 1000k miles on the car and the clutch feels very nice and so does the gear box but from first to second its very notchly for some reason but all other gears its smooth

its like a nice feeling but weriod because before this car i had a r56 jcw and that stick was alot different this is more precise as if it locks into second gear

2 things..get your cdv removed and when you shift into 2nd pull straight back not towards you..you are probably pulling it a little towards you which is natural.

My 335 already has 1500 miles and I hate 1st to 2nd shifting. Will be getting a UUC short shifter very very soon. From what I read in this forum, the SSK shifter is not that much better with 1st/2nd shifting.
What is the benefit of a modified CDV? |

My 1st to 2nd is smooth as glass.Maybe because i,ve been driving a stick for 37 years.Every manual car i have ever had,which is 99% of all my cars in my 51 years i have broken in by double clutching and rev matching every gear.Even with cars notorious for having a 1st to 2nd notchy shift i can get to shift nice and smooth.

^ You double clutch every gear every time you shift? Sounds like a lot of unnecessary work. Or did you do this just during break in? If it's the latter, can you explain how that makes your gear changes smoother?

double clutch is so unnessarily im 43 and all my cars have been stick shift most i should say i used to double clutch on like my s2000 but thats pointless it doesnt effect the way u shift u just do more work for no reason u dont need double clutch a hydrolic clutch system maybe old stlye cable clutches yes but not hydrolic

Pulling it straight back helps a little, but it is still notchy when compared to the other gears. I'm not very fond of the stock knob...I dont' know why they make it so huge...I prefer the smaller more, rounded knobs. With the UUC shifter, at the very least I expect it to be as smooth as my ex-TSX.

modified CDV allows the clutch fluid to flow smoothly without giving you that notchy feeling. I believe the stock CDV has a "tapered/restricted" insert inside it. Modifying it removes this restriction. Just go to Alex (HyperM3) great mod for the $30-$40 ur gonna spend

OH, hahaha... didn't know that. I guess any reputable BMW shop could do this. Try asking in ur local forum. Usually there's a few people in the area that can do this mod for cheaper than any should could

I found my gearbox was notchy when new as well, after two years it's much better, but first to second are never as smooth as the other shifts. I never did the cdv mod, but got a zhp knob and it made it a bit better as well. Perhaps try changing the trans fluid with royal purple, I've read that makes a difference as well.

Its the CDV ppl. Ive been driving stick for many years and when I got this car it made me feel like I had been driving improperly or had to relearn again.
After the CDV mod, the car is shifting precise and smooth. No hesitation and no slippage. Trust me, a weighted or SSK shifter is nice but wont fix what youre feeling entirely. Change out the CDV and youre good as gold.
