Dishonest mechanic, tranny rebuild

Hi guys, i had sent my e92, which has a ZF 6hp gearbox for a rebuild. I discovered that the mechanic did not use the recommended transmission oil, though i was assured that only genuine parts would be used. Now my worry is about the other parts, are they genuine ? Also, the mechanic confirmed that he did not change the mechatronic seal and the valve body (the price charged was for full rebuild).

What i wish to know is - how do i confirm that the tranny oil filter is genuine, are there any specific markings ?

I took the pictures below after the ‘so called’ rebuild was done, i was not aware of the transmission oil issue at the time of the photos were taken, as such i did not focus in detail on the filter/sump.

Update : i just went to the mechanic’s shop to get my old parts, feared that it would have been dumped.

To my surprise, the oil sump/filter was cleaned and kept away, so were the clutch plates. I asked for the solenoids, the mechanic screwed up and babbled that he traded them in ! This is a next level mechanic, which i have met !

Wow that sucks, sorry to hear it! I'd definitely be threatening some legal action and to expose the shop unless they can make it right. Mechatronic sleeves are general maintenance and ANY sort of trans work should include replacement. Also multi vehicle fluid is a good match for this trans (as you know) so I would make sure to get that changed out to the correct LG6/Febi/Ravenol/Mercon SP too. Sorry to hear it turned out like this, sounds like a complete ripoff.

Oh and yes, the ZF pan will have a ZF marking on it.

Thanks for confirming on the markings. I am going to compare the one fitted by the mechanic with my older one. Such a darn crooked mechanic.

Managed to take a peek at the sump, the markings seem to be alike as how my original sump was, but could not view the patent inscriptions at the middle, due to the cover. Also, i believe that the sumps came with a fresh set of screws, which is not seen here.

However my earlier photos seem to show 'something'. Whether its the patent inscription or something else, i dont know at this point of time.
