Valve stem seal wear - PICS
I was not expecting to visually see the wear but it is evident, especially on the exhaust seals. The opening is 1 mm larger on the old exhaust seals and just over 0.5 mm bigger on the intake. The old seals are hard.
This is a big job and those valve stem keepers are easy off but a big pain to reinstall. I've attached a pic and I'll try to take more of the entire job. Intake is on top, exhaust on bottom with new seals on the right. The coloring is different only because of brands - using Corteco from FCP Euro. Last edited by dmckmc; 05-13-2023 at 04:17 PM.. |

Wow, I haven't seen a lot of issues with N54 valve seals but that is really noticable. Were you having smoking issues? Everyone just assumes turbos and pcv for smoking issues.
