Interesting timing - just past 10 years from Paul Walker’s death. Was Porsche waiting for a statute of limitations to pass before acknowledging a problem?

Even the Stig couldn't deal with the Porsche Carrera GT.

He could, it just took some practice. That effectively means if you can't drive it, it's just because you can't.

He wasn't even driving it. I couldn't care less, but I happened to read his widow tried to sell the corpse to Porsche (at a ridiculous price, of course ). That's a kind of disgusting (it must be the best use some have for their "beloved" ones). She really didn't want to return to the unwelcoming street, apparently.

I think so.

I doubt the type of corrosion they mentioned would manifest on a 8 yr old barely driven garage kept 2005 Carrera GT in 2013.

Well this very car took the life of Paul Walker.

It's a real widow maker mate.

I thought the crash was primarily because the tires were 9yrs old and had essentially zero grip....

Once around the block was all it took to kill them both. The 3,500 mile Carrera GT was shod with its original tires. They, like the car attached to them, were 9 years old.

The driver was over ambitious who in a car with no DSC and the smoking rears caused a blow out, it's likely that Walker was trying to stop him but it was too late.

I don't think it had TC

The price for the Carrera GT immediately limited the customer base, and the lack of electronic aids and creature comforts limited it further. It was known that this was a car that wouldn't flatter or coddle you, it was a reason why owners bought them. If Porsche equipped the CGT with stability control, it's the sort of car where people taking it to a track would turn it all off. Immediately.

Paul Walker died in Santa Clarita, I mean doesn't California have a yearly roadworthiness test on cars like they do here and in Europe where tyres are also inspected for cracks ,nails etc.

They only check tyres for damage in our MOT - they don't check the manufacturing date of the tyre or anything like that.

^ If the owner/driver of the doomed 980 could afford the car then why not some fresh tyres..
Found out that there is no 'MOT' in California just an emissions test every two years with no mechanical inspection.

Yeah, silliness not to have everything spot on on that sort of car. Just part of the cost of supercar ownership!

What I read about that famous accident was it took place at a local "Eau Rouge corner" where many fools bragged the driving skills they lacked and the new tires they had.

This information is accurate. The car did not have any traction control.

no, we don't have safety checks, we have smog checks once every 4-5 years or so
