I am currently in a lease for my RX8 and my lease is up in Aug. Since this is my very first least I do not know what to expect when I go to turn it in. I am well under my miles but I do have some minor scratches. I am curious about what happens and what they may try to charge me for.

I did have a GM Smart Buy once and I just took it in and they did a quick wallk around and that was it. They took the keys and I wnet home. They even sent us a refund on the unused miles.

I have read over the internet that this will not happen on a regular lease, I mean the miles refund.

I wondering if I should have those scratches repaired or not. I have already replace the tires because I know that is one of the items they will check. What else do I need to know?

Every lease is different, so you'll have better luck asking for specifics in a Mazda forum. State laws also vary, which can affect the turn in process.

That said, a refund for unused miles is not typical, as you said. Small scratches are not a problem. Usually you get charged if the scratches go through to bare metal. You will also get charged if they are shallow, but more than a few inches long (how long depends on the lease).

I've heard some lease inspections are very detailed - even going so far as removing wheels to check brakes and things like that. I've only ever seen the basic walk-around.
