DM-TL Error and Speakers Crackling (Code P1449, 2A17)
Hello All,
My 2008 E90 (328i) has had an issue where the stereo system doesn't work. One day, the plug-in aux port stopped working, and I'm left with with crackling audio coming from the speakers, regardless of if the engine is running. The aux port does not work, but a 3rd party cigarette lighter Bluetooth device allows me to play music via radio, during which the crackling is still a problem. I brought the vehicle to an indy shop recently (for issues due to intermittent misfiring and throttle issues - they found some corrosion in the DME and were able to clean it and bring it back to life). I then had them check out the speaker issue, and this was their diagnosis: "Checked faults and found no communication to the TCU. Connected a known good TCU and still do not have any communication. It does have power going to it and it is not causing any draw issues. The radio is the gateway to the MOST bus and since there is no communication to the TCU, the next step would be to replace the radio we did test the car for a draw and car does go to sleep and not have draw unless something like the stereo comes on and off while it is sleeping – which did not happen for us while working on it." They also told me that my car does not have an amplifier, just the TCU and stereo. I went to get emissions tests and the only thing that failed me was code P1449 - "Diagnostic Module Tank Leakage (DM-TL) Pump Too High". I ran Bimmerlink and pulled code 2A17. "DMTL, system error - Signal or value above threshold - error present and stored". My main priority is getting the DM-TL figured out so I can pass emissions. I saw this thread referencing a correlation between DM-TL errors and static speakers, but can't find the reference. Does anybody have any experience with this, or know where a good starting point is for diagnosing the DM-TL? If it's any help, the first 11 of my VIN are WBAVA375XBN, and the vehicle has the sport, premium, and cold weather package. The other codes that are present are: 2AB4 - DME, Internal Error: RAM checksum A554 - Alive Phone 9CC0 - Communication with StepperMotorBox right disturbed 9CBF - Communication with StepperMotorBox left disturbed I appreciate the help. The shop advised me the only other issues were the E-Box fan, as well as the thermostat. No no mention of the DM-TL restricting me from passing emissions. |
