It looks like a DRL bulb and adapter.

LED headlight bulb with the wires and connectors. Usually used to replace halogen bulbs.

Thanks for the replies guys. It is my daylight running bulbs but what are the adapters for? I can buy led bulbs with the correct fitment. Are they canbus related? The gold part is end of line and was quite hot when I took it out. Even though the bulb has been dead for a month at least.

The Canbus adapter is used to prevent error codes and flickering, because LEDs use less power than regular bulbs. The gold part that gets hot is a resistor, which tricks your car into thinking the LED bulbs are regular ones. If you buy LED bulbs that say they are Canbus-compatible, you might not need these extra adapters.

That light kit looks relativity new but a lot new new LED light kits have cannbus control built in (no need for adaptors). They even have mini cooling fans to displace heat. Some of the older light kits don't any of that.

Yeah I bought a set of these and they work perfectly.

I just replaced a similar DRL bulb (with 12 little LEDs) on my E61.
The new one didn't have any of those adapters and resistors, just one LED element and it works exactly as good and bright as the old one.

So, like Jaronbwall said, the newer ones have everything important built in
