Hello

Since I couldn't find too much information about this, hopefully somebody here has some idea what could be going on.

As you can see, the car is very slow to pair the bluetooth device and once it does, it stays connected with music playing for about 30 seconds and then disconnects. After that, the phone disappears from the paired devices list and I have to pair it again and it does the same again.

This happened overnight with an Android phone that has been working flawlessly for about 2 years. Tried a different phone and it was the same, so the problem is somewhere in the car.

Is it the Combox? If so, what could have gone wrong there and can it be repaired (like a DME) or needs replacement?

The car is a 2010 E92 with CIC, navigation and base audio.

Thanks for the information, I will look into it. However I don't think updating the combox would solve it, since it has been working perfectly for 2 years, so it's not likely that a missing update would now randomly cause it to malfunction.

I found that the Combox doesn't cost too much, so I will probably just get a replacement one and see if it helps. Before that I guess it would make sense to check if ISTA will give me any errors about the unit?

Maybe try to turn off and then on BT module in tool32. Maybe also recoding?

Check battery Voltage
Re-seat the connectors at the combox and idrive/radio
Try the simple things first.

Connected with ISTA today and I have the following codes:
A8F9 - CBX-MEDIA: Software reset
A8EE - Microphone 1. Short circuit to earth

Not much information about this.
Am I correct that the hands-free mic is a likely cause of this?
What would be the best way to test? Can I disconnect the microphone and see if the BT connection still drops or will the system not work at all with a disconnected mic?
Which connector on the Combox (or where ever it's plugged in to) is for the microphone?

Update: After resetting the codes, the problem didn't go away.
Today I hooked up ISTA again and it's just "A8F9 - CBX-MEDIA: Software reset" and nothing about the Microphone anymore.

Will ask my BMW technician to update the software like it suggests, however it seems extremely weird that the need for software update/recoding appeared completely out of nowhere.

Did some more googling and even though I found some people with the same problem and fault code, this picture pretty much sums it up:

So, before going to the technician to get the Combox updated, I tried a third, different brand of phone just out of curiousity. Guess what? No disconnects at all!
After another long googling session I discovered that there have been reported cases of Android 14 updates breaking the bluetooth.
I will try some different bluetooth settings from the developer menu to get my phone working as well, but I'm happy to say that the problem is not the car, but the phone.

Would not have guessed in a million years that a phone can trigger "A8F9 - CBX-MEDIA: Software reset" fault code.
