Noisy suspension

Does any have/has anyone had issues with noisy front suspension when negotiating speed bumps (at low speed) or lumps/bumps in the road/harsh camber changes etc?

The front end of my car sounds like it's running on rusty old bed springs, creaking away. My car is only 18 months old, has covered 500 miles under 30k, but sounds like an old jalopy.

That said, I have to negotiate probably 8 speed bumps each journey to or from work, so if I go home at lunchtime to see the pooch, I can be going over 32 speed bumps in a day.

Anyone have any info I might tackle the dealer with (car is back in for some service or other in about 1000 miles).

Yup - Got similar noises from the front of mine - which is only 10 months old with 9000mls on the clock ....

When I say similar, mine is more like the oil in the shocks sloshing around, it's quite disturbing! but like kevbohy bizarrely you get use to and learn to live with it... Not due it's first service for a while - but will probably mention it then...

Mine definitely is not a sloshing sound.
The closest I can liken it to is creaking bed springs, although it sounds (and actually feels) worse than that analogy suggests.

Yes I have the creaking sound over speed bumps. I switched to non-rfts sometime ago so doubt BMW will give me the time of day.

You think they'd try and use that as an excuse for dodging any warranty work?

Would I not be right in thinking that a non RFT would give the suspension less of a hard time, as the softer sidewall would absorb part of the compression created when travelling over a bump?

I will mention it to them when I ask them why my car only had one litre of new brake fluid put in at the last service when it requires over one and a half litres.

In theory you should have more flex and thus be more supple?

Could it be the classic seat creak instead?

Yep mines is the same. Have been to the dealers twice and they changed the engine mounts the first time and then the anti-roll bar bushes the 2nd time. The first time it came back after a few days and this time the squeak is back after a couple of weeks - but not quite as bad.

It was getting really bad in mine that you could hear it over the radio when going over speed bumps.

My wife's 320d touring m sport is not starting to do the same.

Basically the dealers have not a clue what it is and just throw new parts at it in the hope you will go away and give them peace.

CD how hard was it to get them to change those things. Id like them too on mine but be arsed fighting with dealers... Ive actually given up with them now.

I should not have to feel that way. I should feel the dealer is there for me at any time no quibble. But unfortunately they are not.

mine do it as well, and it does sound like a creeky old bedstead being given a hard time by a couple of heavy weights.

i'll add it to the list.

i still have the exterior wind induced rattle / noise which is doing my tits in!

No problems at all Carl. The first time they checked it out when the car was in for its 1st service - and replaced the engine mounts the following week. The 2nd time I told them I wanted a loaner and for them to keep it until they fixed it.

They had it for three days and said that they had defo fixed it - by replacing the anti-roll bar bushes. When I got it back I was well pleased as the noise had definitely gone.

After a few weeks though it came back and is still there now although not as bad as before. I can not be bothered going back to them unless it gets noisier again.

You should probably get them to replace your anti-roll bar bushes anyway as it will do the car no harm to have a fresh set after 2 years.

Good Luck!

That is a very accurate way to describe the sound.

Mine creak all the time on speed humps. I am sure it is the bushes. I just put up with it. I know all the met police 3 and 5 series arv's have proflex bushes and sound worse still.

I too have this, most noticeable over speedbumps and potholes. I emptied everything out of the glovebox, door bins etc the other day just to check it was nothing of mine but it still does it. I've noticed it seems to do it more when the car/suspension is cold, once everything has warmed up it seems better.
