Get a 335.
http://www.instantrimshot.com/ Look for an ECU Flash...I am not sure if the 328i can use the 330i intake manifold; if it can, with a tune that nets some nice power. Mods for the 328i A 335i will be cheaper then getting forged internals or FI-ing the 328i, and those are the only things that will net serious additional power beyond what your friend has. The 328i is enough power for 98% of scenarios, and the lack of turbos probably makes it a more reliable platform compared to the 335i (plus no HPFP issues). Unfortunately BMW has engineering the parts very well, so not much more power can be made without drastic changes. (And the aftermarket for those parts is very small, you would need a shop to custom design cams, forged internals, etc). Oh, and wrong section. Last edited by vgame64; 02-13-2009 at 03:07 PM.. |

I had a 328 before i bought my M roadster and i can tell you theres almost no affordable ways to make it faster. I dont think there is a ecu flash and even if there is it will still be very very minor and will be no where close to the 10whp or 20 whp powergain some company claimed. Intake will probably give extra 1 or 2 hp without a tune and 5 with a tune. As for intake manifold i know there is one for e90 but not e92 even if u mangage to find one for e92 its gonna be lot of money for very little powergain. Honestly the maximum with a NA 328 is gonna be around 260 hp and it will still be much slower than a stock 335 and you end up spending a lot of money. Plus the fact 335 has better stock brakes and that dual exhaust setup and potential to become super fast in the future.
Finally my recommandation in one sentence : Trade up or stay stock its really not worth modding a 328.

Absolute cheapest way to make a 328 faster is to trade it on a 335 - you can spend twice as much as the price difference on the 2 used cars and still have a slower car - anything short of a $7,000 turbo kit on a 328 won't make much of a difference and in the end you would be much better spending the 7k on the trade up!
Anything you buy short of a supercharger or turbo for a 328 will not make enough difference to notice and you should focus on spending the money on things that you would like, but making it faster isn't a good goal - intake and exhaust because it sounds better and makes it a little more responsive, cosmetic stuff, but if you want to spend thousands on mods to make it faster, you certainly can, but you really won't make the car much faster if at all.

Coming from a 328i owner..i suggest you pick up an intake (Injen or BMW performance)..M-Force scoops...BMW Performance Exhaust..an OEM short shifter..and a Riss Racing CDV. These will all improve the performance of your car, and obviously saying turn the car in for a 335 is not an option. He just wanted a strait answer. Good luck dude.

1. Have your friend take his keys, start the car and back out of his driveway. 2. Drive to your nearest BMW dealership 3. Trade in the 328i for a 335i. its just THAT simple. |

sorry for givin you shit... i just feel everyone who asks this question deserves it (I asked a while back too... just giving out what was given to me).
in all seriousness here are a few things your friend car do at least to make driving his 328 more fun cuz in all honesty untill a twin screw S/C kit comes out it'll never be as fast as a 335. 1. CAI - Simota and Injen are both very nice, BMW Performance is nicer and if he has $ to drop the Gruppe-M is the shit. 2. Exhaust - Riss racing just released a sweet system to go well with the 328, you can get quads on it too. Headers will help the performance a lot too. 3. Air scoops - there are a few versions out there... I have the RPi ones and they seem to help a little bit with throttle response at higher speeds by forcing in a little more air into the intake. 4. SSK (short shift kit) if he has a Manual Trans... shorter throws = faster car. 5. CDV - again riss racing makes their modified clutch delay valve so you get a better feeling shift out of the car. 6. Anything to save weight - CF hood/trunks help save weight, also seats might help too depending on what he has and what he gets. Also smaller wheels usually weigh less so if he gets some lighter rims (17's or 18's - 19's look sweet but don't save you much weight) that will help out too. 7. after all this, just wait a few months cuz we are hoping someone is going to release a reflash for the ECU to help kick the power up a bit to the 06 330i numbers if not higher. thats all i can think of for right now. tell your buddy to join up and do some searching on here, lots of good info. |
