YUK!! What on earth is this leaking from a pipe ?

I was cleaning the MAF on my wife's E91 320i earlier today and while the intake housing was removed, I noticed this pipe in the attached pic. YUK.

It seems to be going into a junction with three other pipes. The fattest pipe bottom left of the pic goes straight to the radiator. I tried to trace the pipe with the gunk around it and it seems to pass down to the right hand side of the engine and towards the bulkhead. Anyone got any ideas what the pipe is for and what the green gunk is ? As it's so close to the radiator pipe, I can only assume it's related to the cooling system. I checked coolant level and it's fine.

thats coolant.

Has it been extremely cold latley? If it has the antifreeze expanded and froze (too much water content in the radiator), and pushed out around the clamp.

Either that or your system needs a good flush.

Id recommend you get that hose changed ASAP. Its been compromised.

Thanks guys, yes it has been cold here but no more so than last year. I think the lowest temp we had is -4 C which shouldn't really cause that much expansion to the point of leaking like that. The green stuff is rather soft and gunky so I think it's quite fresh.

Perhaps you should taste it as well

It does look like coolant, normally you have to loose a lot to make it look like that and over a fairly long time.

Get it checked out as soon as you can.

Have to say that I would have taken a sniff tbh.

Looks like a chemical reaction of some sort. Hope you get it sorted.

Finally got into a stealers today. They identified the pipe as an auxiliary heating system pipe. They've ordered one in for replacement and they have to drain the system to complete the job. Funny thing, they looked up the part and there's only one in the UK.
