Interesting.....

Manual box engine upgrade to 317lbft, but autobox upgrade up to 332lbft??

Are they saying thats the 'official' input torque limit on a 6MT box?

Probably cost a packet with extra radiator and a new fan etc too...

I wondered the same, or maybe the clutch has limits.

i doubt that very much carl ...

ive been ringing round for the last few days for insurance as mine is coming due, i had quite a few decent quotes until i mentioned the remap. Some couldnt offer me a price, some prices were raised by £££s , so i stayed with my current company which charge me an extra £75 which i didnt think was too bad.

Look at it this way if its 'free / a non charged for modification' they might be charging too much in the first place ... but as allways if you know differently please say so and let the rest of us in on the insurer so we can all benefit

hows £100 'not increasing the premium' not trying to argue with you mate just carnt beleive that a insurer wouldnt be bothered about the remap !

for anyone else whos interested, Direct Line only charged me £75 when i declared my remap, so give them a try

If u had a smack and they found out the car was remapped im guessing u wouldnt get a pay out.

But what if the previous owner did it and you werent aware - you couldnt inform the company of a fact you didnt know about could you now!

Good point, but would you risk it?

Also its a bit different having a map, compared to a full on modified car.

i had this dilema when i came to trade in my 120d with a remap, i told the dealer as i couldnt live with what you mention above, the insurer may not pay out to new owner. I was worrying about telling them in case they used it as an excuse to offer me less on the part exchange. The dealer said that as part of the used car checks the ECUs were reset as standard ?! Dont know of thats true or not, i dont care as i had peace of mind when i declared it to them

I'm with DL - best rates by far as I've had a ban.

Did you start the policy standard THEN tell get it mapped afterwards, or was it mapped from the outset?

In my exp this makes a HUGE difference! Modding during a policy is usually a lot less increase than coming to them in the first place with boy racer credentials......

Mine is insured with Norwich Union and I asked how much if I got it re-mapped and they said they couldn't insure me!

i took mine out standard then rung them about the remap, they 'umm'd and errr'd' and put me on hold for a while, asked a few more questions, put me on hold for a whille longer ... and then eventually said basically 'just bung us an extra £75' i dont think they really knew much about the modd.

Yes i agree its a good idea to add the remap after, but in my case they do know im not a hooligan lol ive been with them since i was 17
