Detailed the new car today

Still haven't really driven it and now can't as the new reg doc has turned up with cherished number and I don't have the correct tax disc!

Looks as good as new

Actually if BMWs came looking that good the price would be £500 more expensive. Looks amazing.

What a nightmare not being able to drive it. Hope it all gets sorted very soon.

Enjoy the car. Are you getting black grilles?

Thanks for all your kind comments.

I have used Zymol Royale in the past but for this one I used Collonite 476s.

For the money it is truly outstanding and the depth of finish is truly brilliant.

It's a bit harder than the Zymol Royale to apply but, with perserverance it gets easier and I had it all waxed within an hour.

I have to agree about the Collinite 476s. Used it for the first time last week, amazing shine for the money. Did the whole car and left it on too long, took ages to remove

Lesson learnt one panel at a time from now on.

Try 915 it's supposed to be better for dark colours and 476 for light colours, both very good and remember as said above apply thinly or its a bitch to buff.

The looks and durability are all in the prep. Best to clay, rinse, apply a paint cleaner and then the Colly of your choice. 476 has more cleaners and solvents in it.

As it was a lovely day up here (incredibly!) I decided to try the Collinite 915 today. I think the light available has a lot to do with it. For those that know my car, it still has it's winter wheels on, the 230s go back on next month

1st Picture, January '08, the car is 4 hours old, usual dealer prep plus a wash, dry and Meguiars Liquid wax by me. Winter sunshine.
2nd picture, Mid April '08, sunny, flowers in bloom and Meguiars Tech wax spray
3rd picture, today, full wash and tech wax spray last week, Collinite 915 today.
4th picture, today, treatment as 3rd picture.

Do any of you notice any real difference other than the light available?

Bet them wheels are a time eating bitch.I can see why you got the 230's going on soon.

I stuffed my 225M back on but it wont be long before I shove the 230's back on for some unknown reason.

Looking good though Alan.

Actually, they are no worse than the 230s because you don't have to clean the horizontal interior of the wheels behind the spokes like you do with the 230s. One day when I snow foamed the car I slabbered it all over the wheels and the pressure hose cleaned the wheels completely (they weren't very dirty anyway) and all I had to do was dry them.

Anyway, it's not about the wheels but the polish. I reckon that's as good as I can get it without machine polishing but having seen quite a few cars on here and on Detailing World, I think a big improvement on this is quite possible.

Love the touring - looks fantastic. Shame they can't get rid of that massive ugly rear wiper though imho
