New record at track tonight for the XI's !

Yes...record is mine..for the moment. 12.184 at 117.464 mph

The car love much more the cold temp. At track tonight 36-37 degres only. The car push very, very hard on top end.

335xi, JB3 1.22, AA exhaust, DCI, CDV, 6mt, race gas VP109, Stock wheel with GeForce sport at 29 psi. No glue on start.

6 runs at same track, Napierville, than last saturday. And this time a little front wind 6-7mph.

runs #1:

launch at 5000-5200rpm...the car spins four wheel, bad 60ft but car push very hard on top..thanks cold temp. The other car #191 = ??
map #7

runs #2:

launch 4700-4800 rpm, better 60ft no spin. Other car #250 = Audi s6 twin turbo 2.7l with mods (??). He miss his launch.
map #7

runs #3:

my best, the record for XI's. Launch around 5000rpm, good 60ft 1.749 and 12.184 at 117.464mph. Other car #285 = civic I think??
map #7

runs #4:

launch 5000rpm. 60ft so so. But the car seem to push more hard on top...maybe because this runs on map #8. Other car #288 = Lexus IF-S...he miss one shift.
map #8

runs #5

launch 5000rpm. 60ft good, on map #8 again, but a little lag when I shift in 4the gear.. Other car #288 = Lexus IF-S again.
map #8

runs #6

with passenger this runs (175lbs). same rpm for launch. A good runs but with 175lbs more...the time and trap are more slow. Other car #288 = again Lexus IF-S
map #7

I think 11's will be impossible with my setup...maybe a new map with more power or add DP and Intercooler...... Anyway I'm happy with my time tonight.

I take my time between each runs... because car push more, when cold.

Now Mike and Elyse...is your turn.

Damn, that IS-F driver must have been saying "WTF!"
Great job. For the weight of your car, those traps are incredible! That 1.22 is breaking all kinds of records. First TakeOne with 119mph traps, and now you in a heavy XI getting high 117 mph traps.
I'm so pissed that it is mid 70's down at the tracks down here. I'm also determined to better my times.
Sure you weren't using nitrous for those kind of traps? JK

same answer...

Thanks

No nitrous for me. but I think the 36-37 degres help a lot. The car push very very hard on racing fuel at this temps. Two week ago with same temp 36-37, on my G-Tech the time is around 12.12-12.15 (best 12.08). And last Saturday at track my run 12.339...(12.27 on my G-Tech) but temps around 63.

A+

**And yes the IF-S drivers..say WTF. lol **

You can see what a great tool an accelerometer is. And its nice to be able to back up your numbers at the track too!

but for 11's, I will need new map or add DP, Intercooler. With my setup at 12.18...maybe the best I can do

Good luck for you and Elise.

Congrats, nice times. I went with RWD because I didn't think the AWD drivetrain could handle that abuse, I'm pleasantly surprised.

Funny in run 4 that the IS-F driver missed a shift...in an automatic, maybe leave it in drive for consistancy (decent bracket car on slicks)

With a 1.7 short time and 117mph traps the only thing holding you back from 11's with faster shifting

Impossible to shift more fast...the car lag between each gear if I shift to fast. Maybe a Forge DV will help??

Congrats Bob!! I knew you were gonna knock it out!

All that with the OEM wheels and non-DRs. I'm confident we can make the RWD guys think twice about not getting the XI once you started adding your mods for more power and breaking the current 335 record.

You have an advantage with 6MT to launch at a higher RPM since I'm limited to a 2500-2600 launch with the 6AT tranny. I can't imagine what kind of whiplash you felt launching at that RPM.

Kudos!!

I think people went away from the XI only because they were worried about the drivetrain failing. Maybe it is stronger than many thought?

I recall reading the assumptions back then but I thought seeing the new 335d using the same 6AT tranny @ 420tq would be clarity enough to validate BMW's spec on what the tranny can take.

It isn't really vocalized too much here - but there is an undercurrent that the XI just isn't up to the performance capability of the RWD. Maybe it was when they were purchasing the car, that the price premium between the two did not seem justified for the spend, but I'm happy to see them both producing great numbers very close to each other nonetheless.

I agree. If the XI tranny holds up, this will be great news for the community.

That statement is factually wrong sir. Ask your dealer tech, they will tell you as your SA will that, "No its not the same tranny." the one in the 335d is a beefier higher rated version with much (yes a lot more) torque limits. It has ZF 26AT, when we have ZF 21AT, big difference man. Ours are rated 360ish tq max. No one knows how much headroom ZF put in there, so as far as BMW goes, you are way over limit in the 400s and sooner or later you will pay the piper you are not careful. I am sure you will be just fine as long as you don't abuse it, such as tq braking when you have those huge numbers.

Other components in the cars such as drive shafts are different too. Ours a much weaker. Need proof other than what BMW says? Couple of People on here have snapped driveshafts torque braking 335 gassoline version cars that are not really much over 400. Be careful the car was not meant to handle that much. So don't tell people they are ok so confidently. Hopefully no one gets misled to believe they are safe territory pushing the cars that much. The 335d is a tq monster but its meant to handle a lot more than our cars too.
