Clean freaks BEWARE!

If you're anal about the cleanliness of your car, never, I repeat, never take a 500 watt Halogen lamp to your exterior. I figured I'd do that tonight with my new 500 watt work light from Lowes after I finished washing my car at the local Do-It-Yourself Car Wash place to see how clean I got it and I ended up finishing an hour after I thought I finished. So many marks still to clean after I came back from the car wash place. At least it's all nice and clean now --- even under a 500 watt lamp.

I pretty much just spent that extra hour putting a couple coats of Z6 on. Took care of everything and made it all nice and shiney.

With that attitude, you really need to join detailcity.org or autopia.org .

I actually consider Detailcity.org the better of the two...

Us detailin' type guys use 500 and 1000w halogens to spot marring; most people are shocked (I mean literally, jaw drop) when they see their car under halogens. It's quite an eye opener when you're out in diffused sun and your car looks like this:

then some jerk detailer puts it under his lights and you see this:

Side note: that jerk detailer is me!

Cheers guys.

Thanks for the heads-up. I just wash and go these days. It's a car....

I used to be uber anal about my car back in the day, but there are more important things in life. Like trying to keep a boat spotless.

I don't even need 500 watt halogen lights to see traces of the marring in the paint of my six year old daily driven E46. Noon day sunlight is more than enough.

Z6 isnt going to cover up swirl marks on your car. that stuff is not perminate and will wash off very fast. Its supposed to be used inbetween coats a zaino to help hide imperfections, swirls, etc. if you layer z5, z6, z2, z6, z2, etc etc, theyn you will get a great finish, but juzt z6 alone will make the car look great for a day or 2, then it will wear right off.

Yeah, I need to pick up a 500W halogen work light. I remember the first time I was detailing my car, I couldn't see anything in the dark garage, so I took the desk halogen lamps from my house and strategically placed them in my garage. Lots of swirls, but at least I can take them out myself now.

It's been awhile since that detail but I think it was PG @1500, FPII @1300, FPII via PC/white.

FWIW everyone - you can get nice 500w towers (two lights) at home depot for under $40.
