Just Springs
Dudes,
Do any of you have experience running on the track with SPRINGS ONLY? Springs would be for aesthetics mostly, but I would go to the track 3 or 4 times a year. There aren't any readily available shock options for the xi, so it'd just be lowering springs. Heard the car may get "bouncy" because the shocks are not properly matched when using lowering springs. Coilovers are not an option right now. But I am not going to lower the car if it's going to be downright dangerous on the track... |

My take is that generally lowering springs HAVE to be stiffer. When you lower a car, you lower the center of gravity, but really screw up the roll center.
All else equal, the lower car will actually roll and lean MORE. Additionally, assuming the springs are stiffer, you will now have a situation where the system is underdamped. The increased energy that the spring creates is too much for the undermatched shocks. You'll be rolling like crazy and bouncing all over the place. Personally, I'd wait until you get the funds in place to get a proper coilover system. I hear the KWs will work with the XI. Given that you do 3-4 days a year, that's enough in my opinion to make sure you have a fast, fun and safe car. I don't think getting springs only is going to get you there. |

I don't have coilovers, only H&R Sports and Koni Yellows. Great for city driving and the occasional track days.

I am wondering this as well. i'm thikning of taking my car to english town raceway to take some classes for the road course. I feel the suspension is stiffer on my ride but I do feel that it is less balanced than before. Can i still track it?
