Tires and Wheels

Thinking of starting parking lot racing. What would you all recommend for a budget tire and wheel combo. Would the weight of steel wheels be a huge detriment? I have a 328...honestly it's not going to be that fast anyway.

Unsprung weight is your friend. Find the litest setup you can for the money.

such a small world.

Jim, whatever you find will be fine. You can spend between 100s and 1000s. Once you feel competitive, weight may be important. Tire choice too. I think you need to first tell us what side of Budget, Style, or Performance you want to be on. I'd make my decision based on budget.

My experience is, I getter better advice at the driving events than I do on the internets. Best thing you can do is... work a corner with a few different people who have information you want.

those pics are great. looking forward to the other 275 he's gunna load up later.

I couldn't get tire pressures right all day. Couldn't turn in correctly to save my life. Still had a blast though. You were looking pretty damn fast out there.

Albert is a champ. He takes such pro quality autox pics.

If I recall, you turned the same times as me? 110.6

My problem was, I look fast, but I'm really slow. Back to the drawing board.

I got into the 107's but I managed to hit a cone on a straight section. I hit more cones yesterday than I did the total of all my auto crosses. Unreal. Probably should have been running in the high 105's

There's always next time. Gotta take down J and that SC 318is. Little thing is a monster. Gun to a knife fight.

Yes, as an observer. Looked like fun...I've been wanting to join in for a while now.

I'm looking for the least expensive way to enter. I would like to get some racing slicks and a basic wheel combo for under a grand if it exists. Basicly I'm looking for the best bang for buck. I though that the best upgrade in terms of performance would be wheels and tires.

Were you running the 2002? The supercharged 318 sounded great.

I was. My 2002 is the not so pretty, mostly gray with a blue stripe, car that would go through the finish gates at like 7/10's.

Your car is sweet--it's defiantly a classic. You are really quick with it too--faster than many of the modified M3s.

Thanks man. It runs really good when comes together. On the right day there's only a handfull of faster cars at the local CCA events. And my car has got 25 years on 'em.

Jump on my wheels/tires. Its an awesome maxed out setup. Nothing like stuffing a 255 up front. The car is completely neutral. The wheels are in excellent shape and the tires have only 1 full (25min x 3 session) event on them.
