Just purchased a Nikon D90
I made a thread a few weeks ago regarding everyones thoughts on the Nikon D90. We are going to St Maarten for our honeymoon in two weeks and decided to go ahead and pick one up. Playing around with it last night, I absolutely love this camera! I picked up the 70-300mm lens along with the SB600 flash, and 2 Sandisk 8gb Extreme 3 cards, a tripod and a carrying case.
First thing I said to myself when I opened everything was "Nikon makes some quality **** ". This is my first DSLR, so I can't speak for the other companies, but I love how each lens comes with a lens hood, and a nice carrying sleeve. They fit nicely in the carrying case I bought. Once again, thanks for everyones help in making my decision! |

as I mentioned above, we are going to St Maarten, what is a good wide angle lens for landscape pictures? Would the lens it comes with 18-105mm be decent? or should I buy another one? I thought about renting for 10 days, but its going to be almost as much as the lens itself.

I've seen people use Sigma 10-22mm, Tokina 12-24mm, and Tokina 11-16mm. I would get the Tokina 12-24mm if I were you. The Tokina 11-16mm is better because it can open all the way to f/2.8, but good luck finding a place with them in stock.

on any crop frame DSLR such as canon 40d or nikon D90, you should always look at the 10-20 range as anything higher won't provide you with wide enough angle. base on the fact that nikon use 1.5x crop, i say tokina 12-24 should be a very good choice!

you will love it. I have been playing around with it for over a week now! Only thing I am having issues with, is how to do certain things but with time I will come around. I picked up the same kit, with the 70-300mm lens, sb600 flash, and best buy had 8gb extreme 3 memory cards for 40 bucks last week. I also bought a bag, but it wasnt large enough so I exchanged it for a lowepro slingshot 300aw. Anyways, enjoy the new camera, it is a badass! |

congrats on the D90, i too have one and love it! if your looking for a wide angle, my suggestions are the Sigma 10-20 which is the wides, Tamron 17-50 f2.8 like this lens, Tokina 11-16 great wide lens but always out of stock, Nikon 12-24 i believe is there widest.
Check the reviews online, good luck! |

i personally don't suggest the sigma 10-20 as it is the slowest wide angle lens among the whole wide angle camp.
sigma has also announced their 10-20 f/3.5 so the previous model is going to take a dive in price once the new one is on the market. I'm not a nikon guy so i don't know what nikkor provides for wide angle, I believe though that nikkor offers some of the best wide angle lens on the market that us canon guys are always envy of. take a look at the tokina 11-16 f/2.8 or tokina 12-24, they are both really good.

i've shot with the Tokina 12-24 f/4 and i like it, sharp and very good build on the lens... i borrowed it from lensrentals.com, good place to rent online. maybe you should rent them and see which one suits your needs??
