Stupid BMW brake dust!!

we all know bmw is known for their brake dust.. it gets on the car within 2 days of driving after a car wash and makes the rim really dirty..

is there a good quick detail spray or something that can clean up the brake dust where i can just spray and wipe instead of doing a whole rim wash

thanks!

I use Poorboys Wheel Sealant, It is applied like a wax, let haze, then wipe off. I normally do 2 coats every month or 2, I use my power washer and the brake dust washes right off without scrubbing, if I let it build up I sometimes use the leftover shampoo from a wash.

I just wash them regularly every week.

I use the Ez Detail Brush from www.detailedimage.com

After I get the wheel good and clean with P21s Wheel Gel, I usually give it a coat of wax, followed by Opti-Seal. It seems to help make it easier. I also clean inside the wheel and behind the spokes. LOL.

As someone else mentioned poorboys makes a wheel sealent.

Yep, short of changing pads, I find this works best.

PB Wheel Sealant and a little bit of soap and water on a sponge gets the job done for me with ease.

How is the PB Wheel sealant comparable to using Zaino?

Dont know about Zaino but i apply a coat of Poorboys every 2 weeks or so then just use soap and water witha slightly aggressive sponge and they brand new after every wash. I also degrease every once in a while along with the tires and wheel wells with a diluted CG grime reaper and when i do that all i have to do is just rinse with water and most of the brake dust rinses off.

+1 for the EZ Detail brush. Best tool to clean the wheels I've used. If you slide diagonally under the caliper from either side of it, you can get most of the area between the caliper and wheel. But if that spot under the caliper concerns you, you really need to roll the car a few inches after doing the wheels, then get that spot on all 4 wheels.

Sorry to thread jack, but in order to prepare the wheal for some wheel sealant, what do you guys use? I obviously want the wheels in the best possible shape before I apply the sealant. I do plan on jacking up the car and taking the wheels off to get the inner barrel clean.

Sounds very anal, I too HATE brake dust.

Wheels are painted, so it's just like prepping your car's paint -- wash thoroughly, claybar, then seal. You're right that it is WAY easier with the wheels off the car.

FWIW, as illogical (and frustrating) as it sounds, I haven't seen much better results when I seal or wax the wheels. I've used Z-2, Z-CS, and Wheel Wax at different times in the past and while they make the wheels look great and smell nice, they didn't make it noticeably easier to clean the wheels. IMO, you just have to clean them religiously and use something like the EZ Detail brush to get as much of the inside of the wheel as you can.

I disagree. Since I started 6 months apart with wheels off, clay, PBWS, they are much easier to clean and stay nicer.

The first time I did the full wheels-off, I was almost resolved to having them re-cleared they looked so pitted. After the claying and subsequent PBWS, they don't look like they need to be clayed (but I still do every 6 months)

I used some Z-CS on my wheels and I can just spray the dust off if I wash every week. If I go two weeks to clean I need to use a wheel brush to get a little bit off. I have only been doing this for about 2 months, but it seems to work great. I have no idea how long the Z-CS will last though.
