Are you using the BMW 'Y' cable into the USB slot or just a standard USB cable?

Might be worth restoring the ipod in itunes and re syncing to make sure its not the ipod causing the issue.

I have read there can be issues with too many tracks on the ipod but mine has 6000 and I have no problems

I'm using the original USB ipod cable that comes with the Ipod when u buy it. I only have like 3000 tracks max...if that! I've hooked it to my pc and all the tracks r there.

That's your problem. You need a 'Y' cable from BMW at around £30 ish. The idrive cannot read the track information with just the standard USB/Dock cable. It has three connections. A dock connecter at one end and a USB/phono plug at the other. It also has a box in the middle which decodes the track info from the ipod into the car. A visit to the stealer will be the only way to get this to work properly.

USB slot?? Am i missing something or has my 2006 330d not have a USB slot?

I have an ipod aux socket in my centre arm rest but when i connect my ipod using this, i dont get anything on screen of idrive..... i have to select my songs as normal from the ipod itself! Obviously this isn't ideal whilst driving so i dont tend to use it.

Can i do anything different?

The USB option (also known as 6FL option) is around £200 extra when ordering.

On older cars (like mine) there was no option at the time. But an expensive retrofit is available.

6FL as it is called was available from 03/07 build as an option and as said if used with the BMW Y cable bought seperate (£40) or in my case supplied by the dealer free of charge you can use all functions of the iPod.
